Tata Motors unveiled its face-lifted Safari named Safari Storme at the Auto Expo 2012. While not an all new car, the Storme is a throroughly revised version of the existing Safari. The really bi and welcome change is that the underpinnings are borrowed from the much more modern Aria which should significantly improve both ride and handling.

Styling is where Tata has s–the front has an all-new grille and lamp design which gives it a Land Rover-like look. But look sideways and you’d notice that the profile largely the same. Tail gate has been redesigned with the spare wheel now banished under the body. The interiors have improved a bit too. Overall, restyling achieves mixed results—it would, at best, extend the life of the current Safari.

Engine remains the same with 2.2-litre, 16-valve common-rail DiCOR engine with 140 bhp powering the Storme.

Difficult to say unless one drives the SUV because the big changes are all under the skin. If they indeed improve ride and handling significantly, and Tata keeps the price tag attractive, then Safari Storme could be a good alternative to another ageing workhorse, the Mahindra Scorpio.
