The straight, boxy design of the Tata Sumo are hard to mistake for anything else. The owner of this Sumo therefore hasn’t played much with the car’s profile and has done some subtle changes which look very good. The original charisma of the car is retained along with a modern touch to boot.

4X4

The one you see above is just not another Sumo but a army specced vehicle. Tata supplies 4X4 version of the Sumo to the Indian Army and while they are not available in the showrooms, one can buy them from Army auctions. Coming to the sumo pictured above, the changes include new steel bumpers at the front and rear. The wheel arches have been customised and give a wider appearance to the vehicle. The tyres have been upgraded to massive 33*12.5*15 inch rubbers shod on 15-inch alloy wheels.

Apart from this, the Sumo also gets a snorkel, a 14-litre Tropicool fridge, a 0.5 KVa inverter with a 5 amp power output socket, rock sliders, LED lamps at the front, rear and interiors and new leather-wrapped seats. Additions also include cup holders, centre console and a navigator lamp.

 

Sumo Extreme

This one is based on the Tata Sumo Victa and is actually an official Tata Motors modification concept that was showcased at the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo. Called the Sumo Extreme, it has the same design language but comes with added flair. It has been turned into a proper SUV now from a UV. The design concept features dual colour exteriors, bonnet scoops and new alloy wheels with big block tyres. The roof gets four additional lamps.

Other changes include a new radiator grille, front skid plate along with a redesigned bumper that has a more aggressive stance now. has been updated with a more aggressive one. The wheel arches are also made beefier with body coloured cladding. Changes on the interiors include roof-mounted AV, one-touch power windows and new infotainment system.

Luxury

The Tata Sumo Grande was launched by the company in order to make the Sumo more friendly for family and home usage. The one pictured above, however, takes things too a whole different level. This modification job has been done by Big Daddy Customs who had been given the contract by Tata itself. The company specifically asked the modification house not to touch the metal parts of the vehicle.

The car now features a reworked stylish bumper and a new front grille, both of which transform the front fascia of the car in a big way. Along with that, it now gets floating side steps, a reworked rear bumper which now has integrated LED lamps in the tail lamp cluster. The marine blue paint job and the matt grey finish together give a very sporty feeling to the Sumo. It also has blacked out alloy wheels, adding to the overall appeal of the car.

Rally-spec!

The Tata Sumo is quite a tough vehicle and the same was used by the company as their vehicle in the 10th edition of the Desert Storm Rally. This Sumo went on to win the competition too. The Desert Storm Rally is one of the most grueling rally sport event and it is certainly an achievement for the Sumo as well as Tata to have conquered it. The Sumo used for this event was a 4X4 edition with additional equipment like a roll cage.

Other changes include new alloy wheels with fatter profile tyres and a sump guard to protect the vital part of the vehicle from stone hits. It also gets a re-tuned engine and race-spec bucket seats.
