While it’s natural to wait for Tata’s upcoming six all-new products, it’s not like nothing is lined up for the near future. The Tiago-based sedan (or Kite 5 in Tata speak) was showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo and is expected to be launched soon — sometime around the festive season — but the company hasn’t made an official announcement. That’s not to say it isn’t being tested, as one of the test mules has made another appearance, reports Motorbeam.
It will be positioned where the Indigo eCS (below the larger, more premium Zest) has been in the company’s line-up, but with new engines, a hugely improved fit and finish, and better dynamics (expected as the Tiago has improved, too). With segment-leading boot space (420 liters), it promises to be a worthy challenger in the hugely popular class of sub-four meter sedans.
Engine options, shared with the Tiago hatchback, will include a 1.2-liter naturally aspirated petrol that makes 83 hp and 114 Nm, and a 1.05-liter diesel that makes 69 hp and 140 Nm of maximum torque. Gearbox choices will include 5-speed manuals on both engines while AMT is likely to be added, too.
Given that Tata Motors priced the Tiago just right, undercutting rivals and offering more features, expect the Kite 5 to amaze as well.
