Tata Tiago EV outsells Nexon EV, beats MG Comet 5 to 1

In a remarkable achievement, Tata Motors’ Tiago EV has emerged as a trailblazer in India’s electric vehicle (EV) market, outperforming its competitors and securing the top position in passenger electric vehicle sales. During the second quarter of CY 2023, the Tata Tiago EV recorded an impressive sales figure of 10,695 units, surpassing the Nexon EV by a significant margin, which posted 5,072 units. Additionally, the Tiago EV outperformed the MG Comet, an electric offering from MG Motors, by a staggering 5-to-1 ratio, further solidifying its dominance in the EV space.

The Tata Tiago EV is currently one of the most affordable 4-door electric hatchbacks in the country and it was launched in September 2022, and its deliveries commenced earlier this year. This entry-level EV has achieved a remarkable sales milestone of 15,000 units, transforming the landscape of electric mobility in India’s smaller towns and cities.

In the highly competitive EV market of Q2 2023, the Tata Tiago EV stood tall at the number one position with an impressive sales figure of 10,695 units. Following closely behind was its sibling, the Tata Nexon EV, with 5,072 units sold. The third spot was secured by the Tata Tigor EV with 3,257 units, showcasing Tata Motors’ dominance in the electric car segment. The Mahindra XUV400 ranked fourth with 2,234 units sold, while the MG Comet and MG ZS EV claimed the fifth and sixth positions with 1,914 and 1,747 units sold, respectively. Other notable entries in the top 10 included the Citroen eC3, BYD Atto 3, Kia EV6, and Hyundai Kona EV.

The Tiago EV is a game-changer, providing consumers with an eco-friendly and budget-friendly alternative to traditional internal combustion engine-based hatchbacks. With prices starting at Rs 8.69 lakh and going up to Rs 11.99 lakh for the top-end variant, the Tiago EV continues to remain the most affordable electric hatchback in the market. Despite the recent price hike, it retains its competitive edge, attracting cost-conscious buyers seeking a sustainable mobility solution.

Apart from its affordability, the Tiago EV is packed with advanced features that set it apart from its competitors. The car comes equipped with leatherette seats, automatic climate control, rain-sensing wipers, auto-headlamps, electrically adjustable ORVMs, and cruise control, ensuring a comfortable and convenient driving experience.

The Tiago EV is powered by Tata Motors’ cutting-edge Ziptron technology, the same technology that drives the Tata Nexon EV. The vehicle offers multiple battery options to cater to varying driving needs. The larger 24 kWh battery pack boasts an MIDC-certified range of 315 km, translating to approximately 260 km of real-world range. Meanwhile, the smaller 19.2 kWh battery pack provides an MIDC-certified range of 250 km, offering roughly 200 km of real-world range. These options provide customers the flexibility to choose a battery variant that best suits their daily commuting requirements.

Tata Motors has ensured that charging the Tiago EV is convenient and accessible for owners. The EV offers various charging options, including a regular 15A home socket, a 3.3 kW AC charger, a 7.2 kW AC home charger, and a DC fast charger. The 7.2 kW AC home charger can replenish the battery back to 100% in just 3 hours and 36 minutes, while the DC fast charger achieves a 10% to 80% charge in an impressive 57 minutes.

The Tiago EV comes equipped with Z-Connect telematics, offering an array of over 65 features that provide enhanced connectivity and convenience to the owners. From remote AC on/off and remote geo-fencing to real-time charging status and smartwatch connectivity, the Tiago EV ensures that drivers are always in control of their electric ride.
