Tata Tiago has acted as a catalyst in Tata’s recent success in the Indian market. The Tiago has become the best-selling Tata car after its launch. It has entered the list of top ten selling cars in India after 78,829 units were sold in the 2017-2018 fiscal year. The Tiago alone contributed 38% to the total sales of Tata Motors in the same fiscal year. The Tiago displaces Maruti Ciaz, which is much more expensive and belongs to a higher segment, from the 10th position.
The Tiago was launched in 2016 and since then, it has become very popular in India. Let’s find out what makes Tiago one of the top 10 selling cars in India.
Value for money
Tiago takes forward Tata’s philosophy of value for money cars. The base variant of the hatchback is priced at Rs. 3.35 lakh, which is cheaper than the Renault Kwid 1.0, Maruti Alto K10 and the Hyundai Eon 1.0. The Tiago offers premium looks and a long a list of features like ConnextNext navigation, voice commands and an infotainment with an 8-speaker system. The Tiago also gets an Eco-drive mode. All these features are not available in any of its competitors.
Even though diesel engines are losing their popularity, it sure gives an edge. Tiago is the cheapest diesel vehicle available in the Indian market and is priced at Rs. 4.27 lakh. The next closest-priced diesel vehicle is the KUV 100, which is priced at Rs. 5.62 lakh. Now this gives a huge price advantage to the Tiago. It gets a 1.05-litre diesel engine that produces 69 Bhp – 140 Nm.
Highly fuel efficient
The Tiago offers decent fuel efficiency in the segment. The petrol engine of the car, which is a 1.2-litre three-cylinder engine, generates a maximum power of 84 Bhp and 114 Nm of torque. It returns a maximum of 23.84 km/l, which is marginally lower than the Alto K10, which returns a maximum of 24.07 km/l. The diesel version of the Tiago returns a massive 27.28 km/l, making it the 5th most fuel-efficient car in India.
