9.95 seconds. That’s how quickly the Tata Tiago JTP will accelerate from standstill to 100 Kph, according to Tata Motors. The Tigor JTP takes 10.38 seconds. And you can book both these cars starting from today. The booking amount has been pegged at Rs. 11,000, and Tata dealers across India are accepting bookings for these cars. Deliveries will start from next month.
The official launch of the Tata Tiago JTP and Tigor JTP will happen tomorrow. Both cars are expected to be extremely well priced. While the Tiago JTP could be priced at about Rs. 6 lakhs, the Tigor JTP is expected to come at a price tag that’s about Rs. 1 lakh higher.
This will make both cars extremely great value for money. The Tiago JTP will undercut the Maruti Baleno RS and the Volkswagen Polo GT TSI by more than a couple of lakhs, while the Tigor JTP will be cheaper than the Ford Figo Aspire 123 Bhp version by at least Rs. 2 lakhs.
What must be noted though is that both the Tata Tiago JTP and Tigor JTP will be available with 5 speed manual gearboxes as standard, in keeping with their driver pleasure-focused positioning. The cars will get 1.2 liter-3 cylinder turbocharged petrol engines with 114 PS-150 Nm on tap. While the Tiago JTP weighs about 1,050 kilograms, the Tigor JTP is about 50 kilograms heavier.
Key mechanical changes on both cars include revised gear ratios, and stiffened and lowered suspension. Cosmetic changes on the outside include double barrel headlamps, revised front grille, new front and rear bumpers, side skirts, new alloy wheels, contrast painted wing mirror housings and roof, and rear spoilers. On the inside, new seat fabric, a black theme with red contrast touches and aluminium pedals will be the prominent changes.
Tata Motors also plans to offer after market performance enhancing packages for both cars, allowing owners to squeeze even more power and torque. The cars have been developed jointly by Jayem Engineering of Coimbatore and Tata Motors. Both companies are in a 50:50 joint venture called Jayem Tata Performance (JTP) for producing high performance versions of regular Tata cars. Expect more fireworks from the JTP brand in future.
