Tata Tiago NRG AMT launched in India

After launching the updated Tata Tiago with additional safety features in the Indian market, Tata has now launched a minor update of the Tiago NRG. The crossover-hatchback version of the Tata Tiago, which was launched last year became quite popular in the market. With the rising popularity, Tata has now introduced an automatic AMT version of the car in the market. Just like the Tata Tiago, the NRG version gets the AMT automatic only with the petrol engine option.

Tata Tiago NRG AMT launched in India

The new AMT automatic version of the Tata Tiago NRG is only available in a single trim level and it is priced at Rs 6.15 lakh, ex-showroom, which makes it around Rs 45,000 more expensive than the manual version. The diesel engine continues to offer only the manual transmission option. It should be noted that Tata may discontinue the diesel engine from the small vehicles like Tiago and Tigor when the stricter BS-VI emission norms are implemented on the cars next year. This can be the reason behind not offering the automatic transmission with the diesel engine option.

Apart from the addition of the AMT automatic transmission, no changes have been made to the engine of the car. It is still powered by the same 1.2-litre naturally aspirated, three-cylinder petrol engine that generates a maximum power of 84 Bhp and 114 Nm of peak torque. The diesel engine powering the Tiago NRG is a 1.05-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged unit that generates a maximum power of 69 Bhp and peak torque of 140 Nm. Both the engine options get the multi-drive modes – City and Eco.

The Tata Tiago NRG is essentially a more rugged version of the Tata Tiago. It is the first-ever cross-hatchback offered by the brand. The crosshatch version of the Tiago NRG gets brushed aluminium scuff plates, blacked-out front grille and air dam. It also gets tweaked headlamps and raised ground clearance. The vehicle gets cladding all around that adds a muscular look to the vehicle. The Tiago NRG also gets blacked-out ORVMs with integrated turn indicators, black roof rails, 14-inch steel rims designed like alloy wheels and a roof-mounted spoiler. The Tiago NRG offers 180mm of ground clearance, which is full 10mm more than the Tiago hatchback.

The Tata Tiago NRG is the most affordable cross-hatchback in India. It takes on the likes of Maruti Suzuki Celerio and the Ford Freestyle. The customer preferences shifting towards the SUVs have caused the manufacturers to launch such crossover versions of the hatchbacks. These segment of vehicles offer strong muscular look while the price tag remains quite affordable compared to the regular SUVs.

It should be noted that Tata will soon launch a facelifted version of the Tata Tiago and the Tiago NRG in the coming months. The vehicle has already been spotted testing on the roads too.
