Indian carmaker Tata Motors has launched the Tiago NRG (pronounced energy) crossover in India. Prices for the Tata Tiago NRG start at Rs 5.49 lakhs ex-showroom (Delhi). The Tata Tiago NRG is the crossover version of the Tata’s popular Tiago hatchback and features added visual upgrades along with a raised ground clearance, which give it a more rough and ready look. The Tiago NRG will rival the Celerio X in the Indian market and the petrol variant of the Tiago NRG is offered at the same price as the top-spec manual Celerio X. A similarly specced version of the Ford Freestyle costs over Rs 6 lakh.
In terms of design, the Tata Tiago NRG features a blacked-out front grille and air dam, tweaked headlights and tail lamps along with cladding on the front and rear bumpers. The bumpers also feature faux skid plates in silver which add to the crossover look. Other than the bumpers, the Tiago NRG also features cladding along the side skirts and the wheel arches and on the tailgate connecting the taillights together.
Other visual changes on the Tiago NRG when compared to the regular hatchback include blacked-out ORVMs with integrated turn signals, black roof rails, all new 14-inch 4-spoke alloy wheels and a roof-mounted spoiler also done up in black.
The interiors of the Tata Tiago NRG remain mostly unchanged compared to the standard hatchback except for the addition of silver and orange inserts on the bezels on the aircon vents, centre console, and around the gearbox lever.
The Tata Tiago NRG is longer, wider and taller than the standard hatchback version at 3,793mm (up by 47mm), 1,665mm (+18mm) and 1,587mm (increased by 52mm), respectively. The wheelbase, on the other hand, remains unchanged at 2,400 mm. The ground clearance of the Tiago NRG crossover is 180mm, which is 10mm higher than that of the regular Tiago.
The Tiago NRG retains the standard Tiago’s 1.2-litre petrol and 1.05-litre diesel engines. The petrol engine is rated for 84 Bhp and 114 Nm of torque, while the diesel offering cranks out 69 Bhp and 140 Nm of torque. Unlike the regular Tiago, the NRG is only offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox.
