Tata Tiago Crosses Another Milestone: Over 2 Lakh Models Sold in India

Tata Motors best selling car Tiago has hit a milestone, Company yesterday announced that Tiago hatchback has crossed cumulative sales of two lakh units in the domestic market. Tata Motors launched the Tiago hatchback in Indian market in April 2016.

The Tata Tiago is quite a value for money product and is available with both petrol and diesel engine options. Prices start from Rs. 4.2 lakhs, ex-showroom Delhi. While people were slow to warm up to the Tiago, sales have been steadily growing once buyers realized the sheer value proposition this car offers. And once the word was out about the Tiago’s main strength – value – sales have been on an upswing.

The petrol variant gets a 1.2-litre 3-Cylinder unit that generates a maximum power of 84 Bhp and a peak torque of 115 Nm. The diesel engine is a 3-cylinder, 1.1-litre unit that churns out a maximum power of 69 Bhp and a peak torque of 140 Nm. Both the petrol and diesel engine options get the 5-speed manual transmission as standard. There is an AMT automatic transmission available with the petrol variants of the Tiago.

Mayank Pareek, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Business Unit President said,

The Tiago continues to be one of the few models in the hatchback segment that is still registering positive growth despite being in its third year of production.

Tata last year introduced a performance version of the Tiago hatchback called Tiago JTP. It is priced at Rs. 6.39 lakhs ex-showroom Delhi. The Tiago JTP is sold via select Tata dealerships across the country. Tiago JTP is powered a 1.2 liter-3 cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, which makes 114 PS of peak power and churns out 150 Nm of peak torque.

Tata Motors has also recently added a new top-end variant of the Tiago in the form of XZ+. It gets a range of new features including a new dual-tone roof, smoked projector headlamps, 7-inch infotainment system with Android Auto connectivity, 15-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, automatic climate control system and electrically adjustable and foldable ORVMs.

The Tata Tiago XZ+ is priced at Rs. 5.57 lakhs for the petrol, single-tone colour version while the dual-tone version is priced at Rs. 5.64 lakhs. It is also available with the diesel engine version, which is priced at Rs 6.31 lakhs for the monotone and Rs. 6.38 lakhs for the dual-tone version.

Apart from this Tata has also launched a crossover version to its Tiago hatchback which is badged as Tiago NRG. Tata is likely to launch a facelift to the Tiago soon. It was caught testing on Indian roads a couple of days ago. Tiago competes with the cars like Maruti Suzuki Celerio and Hyundai Santro in the segment.
