Tata Motors has announced the launch of a new automatic variant of the Tiago. The new XTA variant is priced at Rs 5.99 lakh, ex-showroom. Interestingly, Tata Motors launched the XTA AMT in 2017 but was discontinued the BS6 update. With the rising demand for automatic cars in the market, Tata has re-introduced the most affordable automatic variant of the hatchback. Until now, only the top-end variants were available with an AMT automatic transmission.
The XTA variant is about Rs 1.46 lakh cheaper than the next most affordable automatic variant of the Tiago. It gets a long list of features as well. The Tiago is the best-selling car from the brand’s line-up. With the new automatic variant, it is likely that the sales will increase further. It should be noted that the demand for automatic cars has increased in India in the recent years.
Commenting on the introduction of this new variant, Mr Vivek Srivatsa, Head Marketing, Passenger Vehicle Business Unit (PVBU), Tata Motors said,
“Fulfilling our brand promise of staying New Forever, we are constantly listening and gathering feedback from the market. The Tiago has received a tremendous market response from across regions. Furthermore, the automatic transmission (AT) segment in India is booming and the same has been proven in the sales of Tiago as well. Acknowledging the increasing preference for ATs we are excited to introduce the XTA version to the range and are confident that this new variant will not only give us a competitive edge in the mid-hatch segment but will also provide customers with accessible options to choose from at every price point.”
There are no other changes feature-wise in the car when compared to the standard XT variant of the Tiago. It comes powered by a 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated engine that generates a maximum power of 86 PS and a peak torque of 113 Nm. The AMT transmission is also the same 5-speed unit that is available with the other variants. Tata discontinued the diesel engine options when they updated the Tiago to meet the BS6 emission compliance. All the variants only offer a petrol engine option now. Tata has also discontinued the high-performance JTP variants of the Tiago in the market due to low demand. Tata has sold over 3.5 lakh Tiago hatchbacks in India since its launch.
The Tiago is regarded as the safest car in the segment. It has a four-star safety rating that was awarded by Global NCAP. No other vehicle in the segment offers a four-star safety rating in the Indian market. The Tiago takes on the likes of Maruti Suzuki Swift, Hyundai Grand i10 and more such vehicles.
Tata recently launched the turbocharged petrol variant of the Altroz earlier this year. The Indian automobile giant has also launched the all-new Safari in the market. Tata is now working to launch the production version of the all-new HBX in the Indian market, which will get launched by the end of this year. Tata also plans to launch a slew of electric cars in the Indian market including the electrified version of the Altroz.
