Tata has just launched the XTO variant of the Tiago. The new variant sits between the base XE variant and the XT variant. The new variant has been introduced to make Tiago a bit more accessible to the people. The XTO variant has been priced at Rs. 5.47 lakhs ex-showroom which is Rs. 15,000 less than the XT variant and Rs. 48,000 more than the base XE variant.
The XTO variant misses out on the music system sourced from Harman. So, there is no speed-dependent volume control, AM/FM, USB input and Bluetooth connectivity. However, it still comes with four speakers and steering mounted audio controls and phone controls.
The XTO variant does add 14-inch full wheel covers, body-coloured door handles and ORVMs, LED turn indicators on the outside rearview mirrors, piano black finish on the steering wheel and around infotainment system, interior lamps with theatre dimming, day and night inside rearview mirror, speed-dependent door locks and follow me home headlamps. It also comes with all four power windows, a multi-information display, keyless entry and electric adjustment for the outside rearview mirrors.
There are no mechanical changes being made to the Tiago and you cannot get the XTO variant with an automatic transmission. The Tiago comes with only a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that produces 86 PS of max power and 113 Nm of peak torque. The engine is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 5-speed AMT. If you opt for the AMT you also get ‘Sport’ mode and creep function.
If you opt for the higher variants, the Tiago comes equipped with a rear parking camera, rear defogger, automatic climate control, cooled glovebox, auto-fold ORVMs, height-adjustable driver seat, a touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and much more.
Tata Tiago starts at Rs. 4.99 lakhs ex-showroom and goes all the way up to Rs. 6.95 lakhs ex-showroom. It competes against the Hyundai Santro, Maruti Suzuki Celerio, WagonR and Datsun Go. The Tiago is also one of the safest hatchbacks that you can get. It achieved a 4-star rating in the Global NCAP crash rating test.
Tata showcased HBX Concept at the Auto Expo 2020. It is supposed to be a hatchback that has SUV elements. People loved the styling of the HBX. Tata Motors also said that the production-spec HBX is expected to retain 95 percent of the styling that we saw at the Auto Expo. The HBX will come with a semi-digital instrument cluster, touchscreen infotainment system, rear parking camera, power windows, LED Daytime Running Lamps, LED tail lamps and much more.
The HBX will be positioned above the Tiago and it will also be more funky and premium. It will be competing against the Mahindra KUV100, Marui Suzuki Ignis, upcoming Hyundai AX1 and Citroen CC21. The HBX will also get the same engine and gearbox transmission as the Tiago. Tata Motors might also offer 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine that is doing duty on the Altroz iTurbo. The engine produces 110 PS of max power and 140 Nm of peak torque. This engine will come only with a 5-speed manual gearbox.
