Tata Tigor goes AMT: New automatic trims offered on petrol variants

Tata Motors has just added an AMT option to the Tigor compact sedan, which is also India’s least priced compact sedan, significantly cheaper than the likes of the Maruti Dzire, Honda Amaze, Hyundai Xcent and Ford Aspire. The AMT variants have been added to the petrol powered Tigor, which uses the 1.2 liter-3 cylinder REVOTRON naturally aspirated petrol engine with 84 Bhp-115 Nm on tap.

Tata Tigor goes AMT: New automatic trims offered on petrol variants

This is the same engine that’s also offered on the Tiago AMT, which means that the new gearbox for the Tigor is a straightforward fit considering the fact that the compact sedan already offers the 1.2 liter REVOTRON motor. The Tiago AMT is available in XMA and XZA+ variants, priced at Rs. 6.39 lakhs and Rs. 7.24 lakhs, ex-showroom Delhi respectively. These prices make the Tigor AMT the cheapest automatic compact sedan in India, undercutting rivals in a big way.

Mr. S N Barman, Vice President, Sales, Marketing & Customer Support, Passenger Vehicles Business Unit (PVBU), Tata Motors, had this to say about the introduction of the Tigor AMT,

In a constant effort to maintain our growth momentum, we continuously introduce advanced technologies in our products, fill white spaces and offer exciting product interventions to meet the growing aspirations of our customers. This strategy also includes continuously expanding and strengthening our automatic portfolio. We are confident that our customers will appreciate the perfect combination of practicality and convenience these new additions have to offer.

As for safety features, the Tigor AMT’s XMA and XZA+ trims will receive twin airbags, reverse parking sensors, speed alerts, seat belt reminders and ABS+EBD as standard. Talking of creature comforts, a Harman tuned music system with Bluetooth connectivity, fold-able rear armrest with cup holders, 24 utility spaces for storage, anti-stall and crawl functions for the AMT gearbox will be offered on both trims. The higher-end XZA+ trim will get a 17.78 cm (7 inch) touchscreen infotainment system equipped with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and an 8 speaker sound system by Harman, 15 inch diamond cut alloy wheels and auto-fold wing mirrors with integrated LED as additional features above the XMA trim.

The Tata Tigor is also available with a 1.1 liter-3 cylinder turbocharged diesel engine with 70 Bhp-140 Nm, and a 5 speed manual gearbox as standard. Tata does not offer an AMT option with the diesel engine. There’s a high performance trim of the Tigor as well. Known as the Tigor JTP, it is powered by the 1.2 liter REVOTRON turbo petrol engine with 114 Bhp-150 Nm on tap, and a close ratio 5 speed manual gearbox. The Tigor JTP is priced at Rs. 7.49 lakhs, ex-showroom, and gets stiffer suspension and sits lower to the ground.
