Tata Motors has unveiled a new car and 2 new SUVs for the Indian car market. These vehicles will be launched in a phased way across the year. The first launch is likely to be the Kite 5 compact sedan, based on the Zica. This sub-4 meter car is essentially a sedan version of the Zica, and is expected to share engines and transmissions with the latter.
Also, the Kite 5 compact sedan could be called the Sway in the market. It’ll be India’s least priced compact sedan, and will sit under the Zest in terms of positioning. It’ll replace the Indigo eCS and will be built alongside the Zica, and Nano at Tata Motors’ Sanand factory.
The other big unveil from Tata Motors was the Nexon compact SUV, a Ford Ecosport-Maruti Vitara Brezza challenger. The Nexon features a sub-4 length, and is expected to bring a newly developed 1.5 liter turbo diesel engine to the equation. Manual and automated manual transmission options are likely.
A turbo petrol engine is also expected to be on offer in the crossover, which will be launched in the second half of the year. A Diwali launch is likely for the Tata’s first ever offering in the compact SUV segment. Expect prices to start from under 6 lakh rupees.
The Hexa was the third big unveil from Tata Motors. The 7 seat crossover is now ready for production, and will roll out from Tata’s Pimpri factory. Essentially a restyled Aria with a lot more equipment, more power and torque, and an automatic gearbox option, the Hexa will seek to nibble away at the Mahindra XUV500’s market share.
The 2.2 liter turbo diesel engine on the Hexa will feature a 154 Bhp-400 Nm state of tune, while 6 speed manual and automatic gearboxes will be offered. The vehicle will also get a Land Rover inspired Terrain Sensing four wheel drive system. A launch in March or April is likely.
