Tata’s BIG April deals: Diesel Indica now cheaper than Wagon-R, huge discounts on Safari

Tata Motors appears to be getting quite aggressive with its marketing and discount deals, and that’s good news for you the car buyer. The company is offering huge discounts across its range of vehicles from the Indica to the Safari.

The company has got two deals running – one is a straight off price cut of Rs. 45,000 on the Tata Indica, with prices for the diesel Tata Indica now starting at Rs. 4.13 lakh. This makes the Tata Indica cheaper than the Maruti Wagon-R VXI variant and offers far more value. The second is a discount deal plus gold coin offer on the Tata Safari Dicor, Tata Nano, Tata Sumo, Tata Manza and the recently launched Tata Vista D90. Do these deals really make sense for you? Here’s a break up of what’s on offer:

Tata Indica eV2 for less than a Maruti Wagon-R

Tata’s BIG April deals: Diesel Indica now cheaper than Wagon-R, huge discounts on Safari

The Tata Indica eV2 is being offered at Rs. 45,000 discount on the ex-showroom price. With this discount the car has a starting price of Rs. 4.13 lakh, making it the cheapest diesel car you can buy in India today. To put the car in perspective, Tata has come out with ads comparing it with the hatchback segment best-seller, the Maruti Wagon-R, and there is some merit to what Tata says.

The Tata Indica eV2 offers more passenger space and luggage space than the Maruti Wagon-R. Tata is offering the car with a Bluetooth music system which the Wagon-R doesn’t have. Tata offers a two-year, 75,000 km warranty on the Indica while the Wagon-R offers only 40,000 km warranty.

But the most significant advantage, would be in the running costs. Tata claims 25 kmpl on diesel for the Indica, while the Wagon-R claims 20 kmpl on petrol, which would make the Tata Indica much more cost effective to run.

Does this deal make sense for you? It sure does if running cost and passenger space are your main criteria. However, when it comes to efficacy of service network and image, the Wagon-R still has an advantage. Also read: Tata Vista D90 road test and review

Discounts plus gold coin scheme

Tata is also offering a 1 gram gold coin with the Tata Safari Dicor, Tata Sumo, Tata Manza and the Tata Vista D90. At today’s gold rates that amounts to a Rs. 2700 discount on the car. But besides this Tata is also offering huge discounts on the cars.

The Tata Safari Dicor is being offered with up to Rs. 47,000 discount on the car plus the gold coin, which amounts to a total of Rs. 50,000 off on the Safari Dicor. Variant for variant, the Tata Safari Dicor is about Rs. 1 lakh more expensive than the Mahindra Scorpio. With this discount it becomes slightly better value, but still is more expensive. However, if you want that extra space that the Safari offers over the Scorpio it is worth it.

The Tata Nano gets a Rs. 15,500 discount plus a gold coin, making it good value, as you can get a top-end Tata Nano for just about Rs. 2 lakh on-road price. The Tata Vista D90 gets a Rs. 35,000 discount plus a gold coin, making the top-end Vista D90 that was priced at Rs. 6.83 lakh, at least Rs. 30,000 cheaper than the Maruti Swift ZDI variant, and it offers a whole lot more goodies such as touchscreen navigation and more powerful 89 bhp diesel engine. The Tata Manza and Tata Sumo also get discounts of Rs. 47,000 on the Manza and Rs. 40,500 on the Sumo.
