TEN affordable automatics coming our way in 2017

While the country was previously reluctant in shifting towards automatics, the growing traffic conditions in most cities has led to a change in the trend. This coupled with the fact that the new automatics are fuel efficient and not as expensive to buy (AMTs) as the older ones makes a strong case for them. Here are 10 new automatics coming our way next year.

Maruti Ignis

The Ignis, which will replace the Ritz when launched in January 2017 will come with an automatic transmission. The company is planning to bring in the autobox in both the diesel and petrol avatars of the Ignis. While the diesel one will most likely be the AMT, the petrol one will not be an AMT if reports are to be believed.

The Ignis will be powered by the same engines that are currently on duty on the Swift (1.2 petrol and 1.3 diesel). The Ignis is a crossover that will take on the KUV100.

Maruti Vitara Brezza

The Brezza will also be getting an automatic in due course of time. An AMT version of the same was showcased at the Indonesia Motorshow that took place earlier this year. Though at the time of launch, the company revealed that an automatic version will come up later, they didn’t reveal whether it would be an AMT or a conventional AT. The vehicle will continue to be powered by the same 1.3 liter diesel engine making 89 Bhp and 200 Nm.

Maruti Swift

The all-new Swift which is expected to be launched later next year is expected to get a 5-speed AMT, if the reports are to be believed. The Swift currently doesn’t have any automatic variant on offer and comes only with the 5-speed manual, something the company would want to change with the coming of the new model. The new Swift will most likely get the Maruti’s mild hybrid system as well to make it more efficient.

Maruti Swift Dzire

Maruti is testing the all-new Dzire pretty extensively and is expected to launch the new vehicle before the launch of the all-new Swift. The launch is expected to take place around May next year. The new Dzire is expected to come with a diesel AMT, like the one currently offered on the Dzire and the petrol version will also get an automatic, however we aren’t sure if the company will continue the existing autobox or come up with an AMT for the petrol as well.

Hyundai Grand i10

The Grand i10 recently received a facelift globally and the same is expected to be launched sometime early next year in India. The new Grand i10 has been spied testing here as well, a few times. The new vehicle will feature an AMT as opposed to the normal automatic transmission the current vehicle gets. The company has teamed up with German company ZF to help develop the gearbox in question. This has been done due to people not satisfied with the fuel economy being offered by the current autobox that is offered on the Grand.
