Mahindra will reimagine the Bolero next year as a compact SUV seeking to attract younger buyers. In its current form, the Bolero is an MUV that is built for use in both city streets and on rural roads. While the next generation U301 Bolero will have a long wheelbase version to cater to people mover, Mahindra will also launch a short wheelbase version with a sub-4 meter length. The sub-4 meter, 2015 U301 Bolero has been spotted testing on numerous occasions and the latest spyshots have revealed the dashboard of the new compact SUV.
A spyshot with the image of the dashboard of the U301 (codename for the 2015 Bolero) reveals that the compact SUV is set to become more modern on the inside. While the Bolero has been known for the utility it has been offering all along, Mahindra is now adding style and sophistication to it. From the spyshots, it can be discerned that the U301’s dashboard and center console will be similar to the recently facelifted Scorpio SUV.
The AC vents will be rectangular in shape and will be curved around the corners for a better aesthetic appeal. Although the interiors will be completely revised for modern looks, the old school charm of the SUV, which is its boxy profile and straight lines is expected to stay. Underpinning the SUV will be a new hydroformed chassis that will reduce in weight reduction and increased stiffness.
The U301 Bolero will be powered by a 1.5 turbocharged diesel motor which is currently under joint development by Ssangyong and Mahindra. The engine will be mated to an all new 5 speed manual transmission. The SUV will have a rear wheel drive layout and a four wheel drive unit may make its way onto the compact SUV’s top variants. Expect the U301 Bolero to be priced between the Rs. 6-8 lakhs price bracket.
