The TUV300 supplied to the Mumbai police is equipped with the mHawk 100 engine, which gets the higher state of tune. The 1.5 litre, twin scroll turbocharger equipped diesel motor makes 98.6 Bhp and 240 Nm. The gearbox is a 5 speed manual unit, which drives the rear wheels. Mahindra offers ABS and twin airbags as an option on the TUV300. It remains unclear whether the TUV300s sourced by the police department have been equipped with the safety features.

Mahindra also offers a lower powered TUV300 under the mHawk 80 badge. The same engine is detuned to make 80 Bhp-230 Nm. The TUV300 is the only sub-4 compact SUV in India with a ladder frame chassis. This ladder frame gives this SUV a dash of ruggedness, making it a good option for semi-urban and rural India, where roads are still quite rough. Also, the TUV300 is the only vehicle in its segment, which has the capacity to carry 7 adults. This is the reason why many cab operators have also begun opting for the TUV300. Prices of this SUV start from Rs. 8.25 lakhs, ex-showroom Delhi.

The Mahindra TUV300 also has a longer sibling called the TUV300 Plus. The TUV300 Plus’ longer body has allowed Mahindra to offer it as a 9 seater. The TUV300 Plus is also more powerful. It’s powered by a 2.2 litre, 4 cylinder mHawk turbo diesel engine with 120 Bhp and 280 Nm. A 6 speed manual gearbox is standard with the TUV300 Plus, which starts from Rs. 9.61 lakhs, ex-showroom Delhi.
