Toyota Kirloskar has launched the all-new eighth-generation Camry in the Indian market. The all-new luxury sedan is priced at Rs. 36.96 lakhs and takes on the Honda Accord directly. Toyota launched the all-new Camry in 2017 in the global markets and it is finally launching in the Indian market. The Honda Accord, which is also available only in hybrid version is priced at Rs. 43 lakhs, ex-showroom.
The all-new Camry is based on the all-new Toyota New Global Architecture-K (TNGA-K) platform and becomes larger than the outgoing version. This is the same platform that also underpins the all-new Lexus ES 300h luxury sedan. The car has been designed from grounds up and looks very different from the previous model. The all-new Camry gets an all-new body design, which is much more aggressive than the previous generation model. Unlike the previous Camry, the all-new model is only available with a hybrid version as Toyota sold almost 70% hybrid versions of the last-generation Camry in the Indian market.
It is only available in the hybrid version and is powered by the same 2.5-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine. The engine churns out a maximum power of 174 Bhp and 221 Nm and there’s an electric motor that produces a maximum power of 116 Bhp. Combined, the all-new Camry gets a power of 211 Bhp. It gets the same e-CVT automatic transmission that is available with the outgoing Camry. It returns a phenomenal fuel efficiency of 23.27 km/l.
The all-new Camry gets the typical Toyota’s aggressive design. It gets full-LED headlamps and overlapping grill that gives it a unique identity. It has also grown in dimensions and the height of the vehicle has gone down. Toyota has added blue accents on the badging to showcase its hybrid underpinnings. The sleeker Camry also gets newly designed wheels and a newly sculpted body.
The all-new Camry also gets updated thoroughly on the inside. It gets a larger touchscreen display, a new 8-inch heads-up display that throws out all the information on the windscreen for easy information reading. It also gets a new 9-speaker Dolby audio system from JBL and Qi wireless charging for smartphones. The all-new Camry is all about luxury and it gets three-zone climate control system, leather-wrapped steering wheel and leather seats too. Toyota has also equipped the all-new Camry to the brim when it comes to safety. It gets nine airbags and a host of active safety system including ABS with EBD, brake assist, traction control system, hill start assist among others.
