Toyota is going to launch the Hilux in January 2022. The pick-up truck has been already spotted during a TVC shoot in Gurugram. Some dealerships have already started taking unofficial bookings of the Hilux for Rs. 2 lakhs. Now, according to Motorbeam, Toyota has started dealership dispatch of the Hilux pick-up truck. Having said that, Toyota has still not announced anything officially.
Hilux will be sharing a lot of its underpinnings and components with the Fortuner and the Innova Crysta. For starters, the platform will be the same. So, Hilux will also be based on the IMV-2 platform. But Toyota has increased the wheelbase for the Hilux to 3,085 mm. It measures 5,325 mm in length, 1,855 mm in width and 1,865 mm in height. The ground clearance of Hilux is 216 mm. Also, it weighs 2.1 tonnes.

Toyota will be selling Hilux with two diesel engines. There would be a 2.4-litre and a 2.8-litre unit. The 2.4-litre is taken from the Innova Crysta. It produces a max power output of 150 PS and 360 Nm of peak torque. It comes mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. This engine will only be offered as a rear-wheel drive.
The 2.8-litre unit is taken from the Fortuner. So, it produces a max power output of 204 PS and a peak torque output of 500 Nm. It will be offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. This engine is expected to come with a rear-wheel-drive setup and a four-wheel drive setup. Toyota has not revealed the engine options officially so we would have to wait for the manufacturer to launch the Hilux.
Exterior
Toyota will offer Hilux in India in a top-spec double cab body style. So, there would be seating for at least four passengers and there would be a bed in the rear. Hilux looks butch, in fact, it has more road presence than the Fortuner SUV. This is because of the sheer size of Hilux.
It might be based on the same platform as Innova Crysta and Fortuner but the exterior is totally different. Up-front there are LED projector headlamps with LED Daytime Running Lamps. There is a chunky and squared-off bumper and there is a bull bar like the design to give a more off-road look.
On the sides, there are massive wheel arches with plastic cladding. There are also side footsteps so that the occupants can get in and out easily. There are multi-spoke alloy wheels and outside rearview mirrors finished in chrome with LED turn indicators integrated into them. At the rear, there are vertically stacked LED tail lamps.
Interior
Many interior components from Fortuner are expected to be carried forward to the Hilux. So, we are expecting Hilux to have the same seats, touchscreen infotainment system, gear lever, instrument cluster, door pads, steering wheel etc. Having said that, Toyota will make some changes to the dashboard of Hilux so that it is different from the Fortuner.
