Toyota has confirmed that they will be launching its new lifestyle pick-up truck, Hilux on 20th January. The Japanese manufacturer has released a new teaser that showcases Hilux going through an underpass. Toyota is using #ARicherLife and they have also started teasing Hilux on their website.
The Hilux will only have one competitor in the Indian market. It will be the Isuzu D-Max V-Cross. Isuzu recently hiked the prices of the V-Cross significantly. Currently, there are no other lifestyle pick-up trucks in the Indian market. The price of Hilux could start between Rs. 25 lakhs to Rs. 30 lakhs ex-showroom.
The exact prices are not yet revealed by Toyota but a FAQ document that was leaked online stated that the prices would be lost to Jeep Compass SUV. Hilux can be booked by paying Rs. 1 lakh at a dealership and the deliveries will start in March 2022.

It will be sold only one diesel engine that has been taken from the Toyota Fortuner. It is a 2.8-litre unit that produces 204 PS of max power and a peak torque output of 500 Nm. The gearbox options will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission.
There would also be a 4×4 drivetrain on offer. It would also come with off-road equipment like an electronic differential lock, 4×4 Electronic Drive Switch, auto limited-slip differential and downhill assist control.
Moreover, it will come with Toyota’s A-TRAC system. It stands for Active Traction Control. The A-TRAC system works by constantly monitoring the traction of the tyres. If there is a loss of traction then the system applies the brakes because of which the power is transferred to the other wheel which still has traction. By doing this, the Hilux can come out of tricky situations.
Up-front there will be a trapezoidal grille finished in piano-black and a chrome surround, there will be LED projector headlamps with LED Daytime Running Lamps. The headlamps are also expected to have an automatic and follow-me-home function.
The interior will have a new touchscreen infotainment system that will support Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Other features that will be on offer are dual-zone climate control, multi-function steering wheel, multi-information display, leather upholstery, cruise control and much more.
Toyota will offer Hilux in five paint shades. There will be White Pearl, Grey Metallic, Silver Metallic, Emotional Red and Super White. There would be a decent list of safety equipment also. Hilux will come with an Anti-lock braking system, Electronic Brake Distribution, Vehicle Stability Control, Hill Start Assist and 7 airbags.
Hilux is massive
Hilux is based on the IMV-2 platform. This is the same platform that Toyota uses for Innova Crysta and Fortuner. But Toyota has increased the length significantly. It has a length of 5,325 mm, a width of 1,855 mm and a height of 1,865 mm. The wheelbase of Hilux is 3,085 mm.
With its chunky plastic cladding, huge wheel arches and huge 18-inch alloy wheels, the Hilux has a huge road presence when compared to other SUVs in the segment.
