Toyota Kirloskar Motors Limited has launched the Etios Cross crossover styled hatchback in India. The car is a slightly different styled version of the Liva hatchback, replete with body cladding and minor design changes to come across as a more butch version of the Liva. On the inside, the Etios Cross gets an all-black finish for the dashboard that gives the car’s innards an inkling of sporti-ness while the instrumentation console and assorted bits gets larger.
The Etios Cross is priced between 5.76 and 7.45 lakh rupees, ex-showroom Delhi, and is available with three engine options. The base variant of the car gets the 1.2 liter-4 cylinder petrol engine good for 79 Bhp of peak power and 104 Nm of peak torque. The Etios Cross’ other petrol motor is a 1.5 liter-4 cylinder motor borrowed from the sporty TRD Liva. The larger petrol motor outputs 89 Bhp and 134 Nm and the variant equipped with this engine is priced at 7.35 lakh rupees.
The diesel motor on the Etios Cross is the 1.4 liter D-4D turbocharged unit that outputs 67 Bhp of peak power and 170 Nm of peak torque. The diesel engined Etios Cross is available in two trims, one priced at 6.9 lakh rupees and the other at 7.45 lakh rupees. The car gets 15 inch alloy wheels, whose diamond cut finish give it an additional dose of botox in the styling department.
The Etios Cross hatchback is the latest in the new crop of crossover styled hatchbacks in the Indian car market. While cars such as the now-discontinued Skoda Fabia Scout and the lone operator until now, the Volkswagen Polo Cross, have been market duds, it remains to be seen if the Etios Cross manages to catch the attention of the Indian car buyer. Another crossover styled hatchback, the Fiat Avventura, will hit Indian roads before September 2014.
