Toyota to target Hyundai I20, Maruti Swift, VW Polo, Hyundai i20 with Etios Liva hatchback

Toyota will launch Etios hatchback called the Liva in April 2011. The company today launched the much-expected Toyota Etios petrol sedan in Bangalore with an aggressive price range of Rs. 4.96 lakhs to Rs. 6.86 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi).

Speaking on the occasion, Sandeep Singh, deputy managing director of Toyota Kirloskar Motors said the Etios petrol hatchback version will be launched in April 2011. The Etios Liva hatchback will compete with the Maruti Swift, Hyundai i20, Volkswagen Polo and the upcoming Honda Brio.

The Toyota Etios will also be offered in a diesel variant during the second half of 2011. There is speculation that Toyota may use the 1.4 litre diesel engine that is in the Corolla Altis Diesel. While sedan buyers are looking for boot space, comfort and spacious cabin, the hatchback buyers belong to the age group of 20 -30 years old with average annual income of Rs. 5 lakhs. Hence styling of the car is as important as performance, features and other factors.
