Toyota Fortuner, the best-selling SUV since it started selling in India has completed 10 years in India. Toyota launched the Fortuner in India is August 25, 2009. The Fortuner has remained on the top spot since its launch in India and continues to do even today. The Toyota Fortuner has been sold to more than 1 lakh customers till now in the Indian market.
On average, the Fortuner sells close to 1,500 units every month in India. It is much higher than the competition cars like the Ford Endeavour in the Indian market. The Toyota Fortuner will complete its ten years in the market soon and there’s not another vehicle that has successfully threatened the Fortuner in terms of sales in the Indian market.
The Toyota Fortune was first launched in 2009 and it came with a 3.0-litre diesel engine with the 4X4 system. The Toyota Fortuner was then launched in 4X2 variants in the next year and the sales pushed by quite a bit in the Indian market. Toyota also introduced automatic options, which further pushed the sales. The life of the first-generation Toyota Fortuner came to an end in 2016. Toyota acquired as much as 75% of the share in the segment with the first-generation Fortuner.
Toyota launched the all-new Fortuner in 2016 with new design, new features and even new engine options. The all-new Fortuner is currently priced between Rs 27.8 lakh and Rs 33.6 lakh, which is quite expensive but it still gets a lot of attention from the customers.
The current-generation Fortuner is powered by both petrol and diesel engine options. The diesel variants of the SUV are powered by a 3.0-litre engine that generates a maximum power of 175 Bhp and peak torque of 420 Nm. It gets a 6-speed manual transmission. The automatic variant of the diesel engine version gets a maximum of 450 Nm but the power figure stays the same. Toyota also introduced the 2.7-litre petrol engine with the Fortuner in the market that offers a 6-speed automatic transmission or a 5-speed manual. It generates a maximum power of 164 Bhp and a peak torque of 245 Nm. The petrol version does not get the 4X4 drive system.
The Toyota Fortuner takes on the likes of Honda CR-V, Ford Endeavour, Skoda Kodiaq, Mahindra Alturas and more such cars. However, none of these vehicles is as popular as the Fortuner in the market. The Fortuner’s rugged ladder-on-frame construction with the 4X4 drive system and plush interior make it a practical choice in the segment. The all-new Fortuner also gets sunroof, leather seating option and more such plush features. Being a ladder-on-frame car, the Fortuner sure is a very capable vehicle off-the-track and it also gets the Toyota’s A-Trac system that allows the vehicle to grip on slippery surfaces.
