Toyota Fortuner KING of luxury SUVs: Just-launched Mahindra Alturas in 3rd place!

Mahindra launched the all-new Alturas G4 in the Indian market last month. The most-expensive vehicle from the Mahindra line-up takes on the likes of Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour in the Indian market. The Mahindra Alturas G4 has been appreciated for its long list of features and for its off-roading capabilities.

Toyota Fortuner KING of luxury SUVs: Just-launched Mahindra Alturas in 3rd place!

In the first month, Mahindra dispatched only 214 units of the Alturas G4 to the dealerships across India. On the contrast, Toyota sold as many as 1,475 units of the Fortuner in the same month. Toyota Fortuner is the best-selling SUV in its segment since the first day of its launch and it is highly likely that it will get replaced by a different product anytime soon.

However, we may see a rise in the sales figures of the Mahindra Alturas G4 in the future as the vehicle was launched on 25th November. We can expect the number to swell next month but it may not reach anywhere near the sales figures of the Toyota Fortuner in the Indian market.

The Mahindra Alturas G4 was first officially showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo. The Alturas G4 has been seen testing on the Indian roads for a long time before it was finally launched in the market. It is the rebadged version of the SsangYong Rexton G4, which is already available in the international markets. Mahindra decided to sell the vehicle under its own name because the previous generation of the Rexton did not get much attention in the Indian market due to the lack of brand awareness.

Mahindra Alturas G4 is available in two variants – 4X2 and 4X4. The base model is priced at Rs. 26.95 lakhs while the top-end 4X4 model gets a price tag of Rs. 29.95 lakhs. Both the prices are pan-India. This makes the Alturas much more affordable than its direct rivals – Ford Endeavour and the Toyota Fortuner. Mahindra started taking the bookings for the all-new vehicle and the deliveries have started across India too. Mahindra has created a special zone in all its showrooms for the Alturas to give a rich experience to the customers. All the Mahindra showrooms get a special section and salespersons have been trained to attend the Alturas G4 customers in a special way. This would give a sense of premium experience to the Mahindra Alturas. Owners of the Mahindra Alturas would also get service relation manager who would handle the after-sales service or any other problem in their vehicle too.

Both the variants of the Mahindra Alturas are powered by the same 2.2-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged diesel engine. It generates a maximum power of 178 Bhp and a peak torque of 420 Nm. It gets a 7-speed torque converter automatic transmission from Mercedes-Benz and low-ratio transfer case too.

The Alturas will be sold through a special dealership section within existing Mahindra dealerships. This move is in order to give Alturas buyers a premium experience, in line with the pricing of this luxury SUV. In time, more upmarket Mahindra SUVs will be sold through the new, premium dealership section.
