Toyota Fortuner Type 1 converted to Type 2 looks fantastic

Toyota Fortuner is one of the most popular SUV in the segment. It has been present in our market for over a decade and several changes have been made to it during this time. We currently have the new gen Fortuner in the market but, there are still well maintained examples of old-generation models. It is an mod-friendly vehicle and we have seen several modified Fortuner SUVs with off-road friendly modifications on them. Here we have a very unique modification video where a type 1 Toyota Fortuner has been beautifully converted into a type 2 Fortuner along with some modifications.

The video has been uploaded by Vinay Kapoor on his Youtube channel. The video takes us through the whole process of conversion and also shows what all modifications were done by them. The video starts by showing the Type 1 Fortuner. It was an all black SUV with paints fading out at places. It was a 2010 model SUV and it was definitely showing its age. As part of the conversion, the garage removes the headlights, bonnet, side fender, front grille and bumper.

All these panels are replaced with the type 2 panels. Once that is done at the front, the rear tail gate is also replaced as the type Fortuner had a different design to tail lamps. Once all the panels are removed, type 2 panels are temporarily fixed on the car to check whether they fit properly or not. As part of the modification, a functional snorkel has also been installed on the SUV.

Once that is done, under body of the car, wheel arches, floor of the SUV all get 3 layer anti-rust coating. The same treatment is given to all the doors as well. After that is done, damping work is done on the floor and the doors. This is to improve the insulation inside the cabin. The doors get 3 layer damping to absorb all the road and wind noise.

Minor dents and scratches on the SUV are corrected and a coat of primer is sprayed on the car. After that the Fortuner is sent to paint booth. Every panel on the Fortuner is individually painted to get a factory finish. The SUV gets the same gloss black paint which looks butch on the SUV. Apart from black, there are rose gold inserts around the fog lamp, on the window line and at the rear.

The front gets type 2 aftermarket projector headlamps with LED DRLs, TRD grille with rose gold Toyota logo on it. A set of canards is also installed on the lower part of the front bumper. Coming to the side profile, the old alloy wheel has been painted black to match the overall personality of the SUV. It now gets an auto fold ORVM and at the rear, it gets an aftermarket type 2 LED tail lamps. There is roof mounted spoiler along with one on the boot. The bumper has been slightly redesigned and a set of reflector lamps can also be seen. The tail lamps itself have been slightly smoked to give them a sporty look.

On the inside, it gets scuff plates, 7D floot mats and the whole upholstery has been revamped. It now gets vintage Scandinavian leather upholstery which looks very premium on the SUV. Similar treatment is given to the door pads and the steering wheel as well. Overall, the finished product looks neat and by looking at the SUV, no one would be able figure out that this is actually a 2010 model type 1 Fortuner. Every part on this SUV has been neatly done and that is reflecting in the final product as well. The owner had done a lot of things on this SUV and because of which the cost this conversion cum modification is approximately 3 lakh.
