Toyota has recently increased the prices of their Glanza and Urban Cruiser compact SUV. The price of Glanza and Urban Cruiser has been increased by up to Rs 22,000 and Rs 15,000 respectively. The manufacturer has mentioned rising input cost as a reason behind the price rise. Toyota increased the price of their Fortuner and Innova Crysta models last month and that is why they were exempted this time. As we know both Toyota Glanza and Urban Cruiser are rebadged versions of Maruti Baleno and Maruti Vitara Brezza compact SUV.
Maruti recently launched the updated Mar0uti Baleno and the same changes were carried forward to the 2022 Toyota Glanza as well. Till now, Toyota was selling the Glanza at a starting price of Rs 6.39 lakh. With the price increase this has ended. Depending up on the variant, the amount increased varies. in lower variants, the price rise is Rs 14,000 and as we move the variants, the price increase goes up to Rs 22,000. The price of Toyota Glanza after the price hike starts at Rs 6.53 lakh, ex-showroom and goes up to Rs 9.91 lakh, ex-showroom.

When it comes to Urban Cruiser the price rise is even across all the variant except Premium variant. The Premium variant with the manual gearbox has not seen a price change. The price for Toyota Urban Cruiser now starts at Rs 9.03 lakh, ex-showroom and goes up to Rs 11.73 lakh, ex-showroom. Toyota updated the Glanza as soon as the Baleno was launched. In comparison Baleno, the Glanza gets a sporty looking front fascia. Other than the cosmetic changes, the car remains the same from every angle.
Maruti is also working on new-generation Brezza SUV for India. It is expected to be launched in the market soon. Once Maruti launches the all-new Brezza, the same changes would make its way to Urban Crusier as well. There would be cosmetic changes that would differentiate both Brezza and Urban Cruiser. Test mules of Maruti Brezza have been spotted testing several times. Both Maruti and Toyota are also working on a new mid-size SUV. This SUV will rival with the likes of Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos in the market. Both the SUVs will come with a strong hybrid system. Both the SUVs from Toyota and Maruti have been spotted testing on Indian soil.
Coming back to Toyota Glanza and Urban Cruiser, both SUV use the same engine and transmission as Baleno and Brezza. Glanza is powered by 1.2 litre DualJet petrol engine that is available with a 5-speed manual and an AMT gearbox. The Urban Cruiser on the other hand gets a 1.5 litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that gets manual and 4-speed automatic transmission. In the upcoming version of Brezza or Urban cruiser, the 4-speed automatic transmission will be replaced with a proper 6-speed torque converter unit. This unit has already found its place in Ertiga and XL6. Toyota might also introduce CNG to Glanza soon to help owners tackle the rising fuel prices. Toyota Glanza will become the first model from the manufacturer to get factory fitted CNG when launched.
