Snapshot: Toyota Kirloskar Motors India has introduced two new diesel variants for the Etios Liva hatchback: the VD and VD SP*. Both variants add equipment and features to the diesel engined variants of the Liva hatchback, albeit with no changes to the mechanicals.

Toyota Kirloskar India’s large scale cost cutting on cars such as the Etios sedan and the Etios Liva hatchback hasn’t gone well with buyers. A course correction backed by buyer feedback resulted in Toyota facelifting the Etios sedan and Etios Liva hatchback with new features and styling bits. The car maker also introduced a high performance variant of the Etios Liva hatchback, TRD Sportivo kits for the Etios and Liva, and Xclusive editions of the sedan and hatchback.
In its continuing bid to take the Etios Liva upmarket, Toyota has added two new variants to the diesel engined version of this hatchback. VD and VD SP are the two new diesel engined variants of the Liva. Both variants retain the 1.4 liter D-4D diesel engine equipped with a fixed geometry turbo charger. The engine outputs 70 Bhp-170 Nm and is mated to a 5 speed manual gearbox. While the VD variant of the Etios Liva is priced at 6.72 lakh rupees, the VD SP* is priced at 7.12 lakh rupees, both prices reflecting ex-showroom Delhi figures.
While twin airbags and ABS+EBD are optional safety features on the Etios Liva’s VD and VD SP* variants, the features added to the VD variant of the Toyota Etios Liva hatchback are as follows:
- Double chrome front grille
- Fog lamps
- Rear wash wipe system
- 12-spoke alloy wheels
- Chrome detailing on the boot lid
- Wing mirrors with integrated turn indicators
- Rear defogger
- Tachometer
- Dual-tone interiors
- Wood finish for door arm rests
- Chrome finish for gearshift knob
- Bluetooth integrated audio system
The VD SP* variant of the Toyota Etios Liva adds the following features in addition to the ones listed above:
- Leather wrapped steering wheel
- Steering wheel mounted audio control
- Twin airbags
- ABS+EBD
