Toyota is working on four new vehicles that will be launching in India this year. There will be a hatchback, a compact SUV, a mid-size SUV and a lifestyle pick-up truck. This will give more options to the customers to choose from. Below are the cars that the Japanese manufacturer will launch this year.
The first vehicle that Toyota will launch is the Hilux pick-up truck. The bookings for Hilux are already open and the booking amount is set to Rs. 50,000. The prices of the Hilux will be revealed in March, the deliveries will also begin in March. There would be two variants on offer namely, Standard and High. The prices of the pick-up truck are expected to be around Rs. 35 lakhs.
It will be offered only with a 2.8-litre diesel engine that produces 204 PS of max power and 420 Nm of peak torque with the 6-speed manual gearbox. If you opt for the 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox then the torque output is increased to 500 Nm. Toyota is offering a 4×4 system as standard with the Hilux. Moreover, it also gets high and low-range transfer case.
New-generation Toyota Glanza
As we know Toyota rebadged the Baleno as Glanza and sold it in India. Maruti Suzuki will be launching the updated Baleno in February this year. So, Toyota would also have to update its Glanza considering both of them are essentially the same cars. The exact launch date of the updated Glanza is not yet known.
Updated Urban Cruiser
Toyota’s second rebadged Maruti car was the Vitara Brezza. Toyota sold it as the Urban Cruiser. Maruti Suzuki will be launching the new generation of the Vitara Brezza in April this year and we are expecting that Toyota will also soon follow them by launching the updated Urban Cruiser.
Toyota’s new mid-size SUV
Toyota and Maruti Suzuki are working on a new mid-size SUV that will be competing against Hyundai Creta, MG Astor, Renault Duster, Nissan Kicks and Kia Seltos. The Mid-size SUV segment is the space where neither Toyota nor Maruti Suzuki has seen a huge success. So, it could be said that the new mid-size SUV could be the most important launch of this year for both manufacturers. The new mid-size SUVs could launch in festive season of this year.
The new mid-size has been codenamed D22 by Toyota whereas Maruti Suzuki calls their SUV “YFG”. It will be made at the Toyota’s plant at Bidadi, Karnataka for both the manufacturers. Right now, Maruti Suzuki makes the Glanza and Urban Cruiser at their plant and then supply them to Toyota.
It will be based on the DNGA platform and will also get a strong hybrid powertrain. Unlike the current rebadged vehicles, the D22 and YFG will look different. We are also expecting changes to the interior too. Moreover, both of them will be equipped with a lot of features.
