Toyota will unveil the all-new, 2nd generation Innova tomorrow at the Auto Expo. The new Innova will be branded the Innova Crysta, which indicates that the current Innova may be repositioned lower down the price band, perhaps as a taxi-only model. While all indications point to a premium approach for the new MPV, a web report suggests that dealers could start taking bookings for the new vehicle from the 5th of February.
On whether this means that Toyota would announce prices of the Innova Crysta remains to be seen. For this development though, the anticipation around the new MPV has just climbed one more pitch. The new MPV will use a brand new turbo diesel engine from the GD range. The 2.4 liter downsized motor will make more power and torque – 143 Bhp and 369 Nm, and will be mated to 6 speed manual and automatic transmissions.
The motor will be built at Toyota’s new diesel engine factory in Bangalore. The rear wheel drive layout will be retained and so will be the case with the 7 seat layout. More safety features will be added while the cabin will take a premium route as far as fit and finish goes. We expect the Innova Crysta to carry a price tag that about 10% higher than the older/current Innova.
