Toyota Innova Crysta launched

Toyota has just launched the all-new Innova Crysta in India. Prices of the new MPV start from 13.84 lakh rupees for the base variant, going all the way up to 20.78 lakh rupees for the top-end variant. Keeping these prices in mind, the Innova is the most expensive MPV sold in India currently, and one that has no direct competition. The new Innova’s top end version is nearly 15 % costlier than the outgoing model but the pricing of the MPV is still very, very competitive, and here’s why.

G MT: 13.84 lakh rupees (older Innova 13.74 lakhs) and ZX AT: 20.78 lakh rupees (older Innova 17.40 lakhs)

The base version of the Innova Crysta starts at 13.84 lakh rupees, which is just 10,000 rupees more than the outgoing base version. For the 10,000 rupee premium, Toyota offers a much more powerful and fuel efficient 2.4 liter GD turbo diesel engine, which makes 147 Bhp-343 Nm. This engine drives the rear wheels by means of a 5 speed manual gearbox. The Crysta also gets a larger 2.8 liter turbo diesel engine with 174 Bhp-360 Nm. This engine is paired to a 6 speed automatic gearbox. The smaller motor gets an ARAI certified fuel efficiency figure of 15.1 Kmpl, while the larger engine manages 14.29 Kmpl.

All variants of the Innova get ABS and 3 airbags (driver, driver knee and passenger) as standard fare. The interiors have been upgraded significantly and the new MPV feels quite luxurious. Space on the inside has also increased as the new Innova Crysta is both longer and wider than the outgoing version.The wheelbase remains the same though, at 2,750 mm. The new Innova is 4,735 mm long (150 mm longer), 1,830 mm wide (70 mm wider) and 1,795 mm tall (35 mm taller).

Ground clearance is rated at 167 mm, while kerb weights for MT and AT variants are 1,855 and 1,870 Kgs respectively. Other interesting new features on the MPV include cruise control, 7 airbags, ESP and hill hold on the top-spec ZX trim, LED headlamps with projectors, ambient lighting, a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with navigation, 1-touch tumble and space-up rear seats, easy-slide front passenger seat, 8-way power adjustable driver’s seat, automatic climate control for the rear seat passengers and a smart key with push start button.
