Toyota Innova Crysta OUTSELLS the much cheaper Maruti Ertiga MPV

There’s no stopping the Toyota Innova Crysta – India’s best selling MPV. In fact, the Crysta has just outsold the much cheaper Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, underscoring the fact that Indian MPV buyers simply love the large and luxurious people mover from Toyota. The Innova Crysta is also Toyota’s best selling car in India, outselling a lot of cheaper Toyota cars such as the Etios Liva, the Etios and even the recently launched Yaris C-Segment sedan. The Toyota Innova Crysta is preferred both by personal car buyers and cab operators. Prices of the Innova Crysta start from Rs. 14.33 lakh, making it India’s most expensive MPV presently.

The high price has not stopped customers from opting for the Innova Crysta. In July 2018, Toyota shipped out 6,638 units of the Crysta to dealer stockyards across the country while Maruti Suzuki managed to ship out only 4,764 units of the Ertiga – the second best selling MPV in India.

While a new Ertiga is on its way into India, and perhaps this is the reason why the MPV’s sales are slowing down, it still does not take away from the fact that the much pricier Innova Crysta is doing stellar numbers, month after month. There are a few key reasons why buyers are making a beeline for the Innova Crysta in India.

Firstly, the MPV has a reputation for great comfort, so much so that many passengers demand to be ferried only in an ‘Innova’. Cab operators love this MPV for its bomb-proof reliability and low maintenance costs. Personal MPV buyers like the new Innova Crysta for the range of features it packs in, and also the automatic gearbox options it’s now available with.

Currently, the Toyota Innova Crysta is sold with three engine options – 2.4-litre and 2.8-litre turbocharged diesels, and a 2.7-litre naturally aspirated petrol. The petrol engine gets 5-speed manual and 6-speed torque converter automatic gearboxes.

The smaller diesel gets a 6-speed manual while the larger diesel is available exclusively with a 6-speed automatic gearbox. All variants of the Innova Crysta are rear-wheel driven. Also, the Innova Crysta is a body-on-ladder MPV that offers seating for 7 or 8 people depending on the variant chosen.
