The all-new Toyota Innova HyCross was unveiled in India last week, and the official launch is slated for January 2023, when the price announcement will also happen. The hybrid MPV packs a whole load of new features, and is also the fastest, and most fuel efficient Innova, ever! Media drives of the Toyota Innova HyCross Hybrid have commenced, and Toyota is likely to position the new MPV as a crossover. The styling indicates just that, and the Innova HyCross also has ample street presence to be positioned as a crossover. Here are some pictures that prove just this.

As the pictures indicate, the new Toyota Innova HyCross Hybrid looks just as big as the top-selling Mahindra XUV700 luxury crossover, if not bigger. The front, profile and rear-end the Innova HyCross match those of the XUV700 in terms of size, and street presence. All in all, Toyota can easily get away with calling the Innova HyCross a SUV.
In terms of actual dimensions, the Innova HyCross is indeed bigger than the XUV700. The Toyota Innova HyCross measures 4755 mm in length, 1850 mm in width and 1795 mm in height. Wheelbase stands at a massive 2,850 mm. In comparison, the Mahindra XUV700 measures 4,695 mm long, 1,890 mm wide, 1,755 mm tall and gets a wheelbase of 2,750 mm. Clearly, the Toyota Innova HyCross is larger than the XUV700.

It’s only in terms of width that the XUV700 comes up trumps. In every other dimension including the wheelbase, the Innova HyCross has the full measure of the flagship Mahindra. The big street presence of the Innova HyCross is also demonstrated in pictures that show the hybrid vehicle with the Innova Crysta MPV. It’s clear that the HyCross is indeed larger than the Innova Crysta, with a much more imposing street presence that gives it crossover credentials.
As for pricing, the Toyota Innova HyCross is likely to start from close to the Rs. 20 lakh mark, making it significantly pricier than both the Mahindra XUV700 and the Innova Crysta. We expect Toyota to line up the top-end Innova HyCross against the Kia Carnival, which itself is a luxurious SUV with a powerful turbo diesel engine and automatic gearbox combination. Ex-showroom prices of the Kia Carnival start from Rs. 29.99 lakh.
The Innova HyCross sold in India will get two engine options: a regular 2.0 litre-4 cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine with 172 Bhp and 197 Nm of peak torque, and a 2.0 litre strong hybrid petrol engine with 184 Bhp on tap. Both engines will get CVT automatic gearboxes as standard, and will drive the front wheels of the crossover. The HyCross gets a premium cabin with floating 10 inch touchscreen infotainment system, semi-digital instrument cluster, leather upholstery, ventilated front seats, ambient lights, panoramic sunroof, multi-function steering wheel and 360 camera. Toyota is also offering ADAS technology that consists of adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitor and rear cross-traffic alert.
