The Japanese automotive giant Toyota’s Indian subsidiary, Toyota Kirloskar Motor, is gearing up to launch three new SUVs within the next 18 months to grow in the competitive Indian SUV market. According to reports, these additions will help the brand increase the number of vehicles offered in its portfolio and capitalize on the ever-growing demand for SUVs in India. It has been reported that these three SUVs will be positioned in the crossover SUV, 7-seater SUV, and premium mid-size SUV segments of the Indian market.

Three New Toyota SUVs Coming in 18 Months

First off, let’s talk about the first SUV making its debut. According to reports, it will be the Taisor, a crossover SUV based on the Fronx platform. This new model will be launched in India sometime this year; however, the exact dates have not been revealed. The Taisor, like other shared models between Maruti Suzuki and Toyota, will be a badge-engineered model, meaning it will be exactly the same as the Fronx but could come with a few aesthetic modifications to differentiate the two crossovers.

Maruti Suzuki launched the Fronx crossover back in April of 2023 with two petrol engine options. The first one is a 1.2-litre four-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine shared with the Baleno, producing 90 PS of maximum power and 113 Nm of maximum torque. The other is a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that makes 100 PS of power and 147 Nm of torque. Most likely, the Toyota Taisor will also get the exact same engine options. The pricing for the Toyota Taisor will be in the range of Rs 7.5 lakh to 13.5 lakh.

Urban Cruiser Hyryder-based Three-Row SUV

Apart from the Taisor, the company is also working on a seven-seater three-row SUV based on its outgoing hybrid mid-size SUV, Urban Cruiser Hyryder. Reports have suggested that this new SUV could be unveiled in 2025. It has also been reported that in the Toyota India lineup, it will be positioned just below the Corolla Cross SUV (more on this SUV ahead).

At the moment, no test mules of this SUV have been spotted testing in the country. However, the company could start the real-life tests in the coming months. In terms of design, the new Three-row Hyryder will look like an elongated iteration of the outgoing Hyryder. Most likely, the company will extend its wheelbase to accommodate a third row of seats. In terms of powertrain, it will come with the exact same powertrain options as the outgoing Hyryder.

Corolla Cross-Based SUV

Coming to the third SUV in the Toyota SUV launch pipeline, it will be an SUV based on the Corolla Cross. Presently, the exact launch date for this SUV has not been revealed; however, it will most likely make its debut in 2025. In the Toyota India lineup, this SUV will be positioned above the three-row Hyryder.

According to reports, this model will share the TNGA-C platform with the Innova Hycross. This suggests that the car would most likely get a strong hybrid powertrain. Currently, the Toyota Innova Hycross is available with a 2.0-litre petrol engine paired with an electric motor. This setup generates a combined power output of 184 bhp and 188 Nm of torque. Currently, the Corolla Cross premium mid-size SUV is offered in international markets such as Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, North America, Europe, China, and Pakistan.
