Toyota launches Camry Hybrid facelift, Prius in India

Toyota India launched two vehicles in the form of Camry Hybrid and the Prius. The Camry gets minor changes and upgrades whereas the Prius comes in an all-new model. The Camry Hybrid has launched at Rs. 31.98 lakh and the Prius carries a price tag of Rs. 38.96 lakh.

The new Camry Hybrid remains similar to the older model but gets minor design tweaks and some new features. The Hybrid sedan now comes with LED fog lamps and revised LED headlamps with projectors. Toyota has also added bigger 15-inch alloy wheels to make the car look sporty.

On the inside, Toyota Camry gets some more additions. To start with, there is a 12 speaker system from JBL, navigation system and wireless smartphone charger system. Other features like reclining rear seats, zebra wood finish, are carried from the last model. Safety wise, the new Camry Hybrid gets 9 SRS airbags including driver knee airbag, a new tyre pressure monitoring system, new back guide monitor, new emergency brake signal, impact absorbing body, traction control and hill assist control.

Announcing the launch, Akitoshi Takemura, Sr. Vice President, Toyota Kirloskar Motor said, “Camry Hybrid is the first and the only strong hybrid vehicle to be manufactured in India. The globally renowned Toyota Camry Hybrid has had a magnificent journey ever since its debut in 2013 in India. We are confident that the new and improved Camry Hybrid will further add to customer delight and help us spread awareness about the advantages of a strong hybrid technology. Here we would also like to thank the government who has encouraged our efforts to promote hybrid technology in India by introducing schemes like FAME-(Faster Adoption & Manufacturing of Electric cars) under which the Camry Hybrid qualifies to receive a markdown of ₹ 70,000 in its price which is passed onto the customer.

Toyota has also launched the fourth generation of Prius Hybrid in India. The most popular hybrid vehicle in the world gets stiffer and lighter suspension that also improves the centre of gravity for the vehicle. Toyota says that the new Prius us much more fun to drive too. The new Prius gets a futuristic design on the outside.

The vehicle gets powered by a 1.8-litre petrol engine that produces a maximum of 96.5 BHP and 142 Nm of torque. The extra power comes from the 71 BHP electric motor that also generates 163 Nm of maximum torque. The Prius returns a maximum of 26.27 km/l. There are seven airbags, ABS, Brake Assist, EBD, Stability Control and Traction Control in the vehicle.
