Japanese car manufacturer Toyota has been in the market for over two decades and they have offered number of good products too. Toyota Innova, Innova Crysta and Toyota Fortuner are some of the popular models. Last year India’s largest car manufacturer Maruti Suzuki and Toyota entered a partnership where they announced that they will be launching several rebadged models in the Indian market. The first model to be launched under this partnership was the rebadged Maruti Baleno which is known as Glanza. Recently they launched the second product Urban Cruiser sub-4 meter compact SUV which is a rebadged version of Maruti’s Vitara Brezza. Now, these models are gaining popularity in the market and are doing better than Toyota’s own models.

Toyota sold 2,832 units of Urban Cruiser SUV and 2,428 units of Glanza premium hatchback in the month of November 2019. Sales number for these rebadged models is more than Toyota’s own models. The manufacturer sold 2,192 units of Toyota Innova Crysta and 656 units of Totoya Fortuner in November 2020.
They also have other offerings in their portfolio. They have Yaris sedan, Camry and earlier this year, Toyota also launched the luxury MPV Vellfire in the market. Toyota sold 345 units of Yaris, 32 units of Camry and 23 units of Vellfire MPV last month. The reason why, Glanza and Urban Cruiser and doing well for Toyota is because of the price. Notably, Maruti Suzuki sold 17,872 units of the Baleno and 7,838 units of the Vitara Brezza in November 2020.

In comparison to other Toyota offerings, Urban Cruiser and Glanza are much more affordable. They used to offer Etios and Etios Liva in the market before but, it has now been discontinued. With Etios being discontinued, Glanza is the entry level model from the manufacturer. The other reason these models are doing well despite being rebadged Maruti cars is because of the goodwill. Toyota products like Crysta and Fortuner have created a good image for Toyota among customers.
Toyota has not launched any new product in the market for quite some time. They recently launched a facelifted version of the Innova Crysta with minor cosmetic changes in the market. Innova Crysta received updates like a revised front grille and bumper, fog lamp design and the headlamp now gets LED DRLs in them. It also got an updated touchscreen infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Prices for the updated Toyota Innova Crysta starts at Rs 16.26 lakh, ex-showroom and go up to Rs 24.33 lakh, ex-showroom.
Toyota is also working on an updated Fortuner SUV which has already been launched in international markets. The SUV was spotted testing here on our roads several times and is expected to be launched in the market some time later next year. Fortuner will also be getting updated grille, bumper, LED tail lights and updated infotainment screen in the updated version. Toyota Glanza and Urban Cruiser use the same engine and transmission as Maruti Baleno and Vitara Brezza. They are only available with a petrol engine. The Glanza is powered by a 1.2 litre engine whereas the Urban Cruiser gets a 1.5 litre unit. Price for Glanza starts at Rs 7.01 lakh, ex-showroom and go up to Rs 8.96 lakh, ex-showroom. The Urban Cruiser prices starts from Rs 8.40 lakh and go up to Rs 11.30 lakh, ex-showroom.
