Toyota for the first time ever will enter the mid-size sedan segment in India. The long-awaited Yaris will finally be launched in the Indian market next month. The segment sees a lot of competition between the current players like the Maruti Ciaz, Honda City and Hyundai Verna, Toyota will only make the competition much stiffer. Toyota has already mentioned that the Yaris will be a premium product in the Indian market and will get many first-in-class features. The unique features are something that will highlight the Yaris in the segment. Let’s find out what makes Yaris different from the rest of the cars in the segment.
Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) – The new Yaris will get segment-first Tyre Pressure Monitoring System. The equipment will show real-time tyre pressure from all the four wheels and display it on the console. It is a safety feature that will lower the chance of tyre bursts.
7 airbags – The new Yaris will also get as many as 7 airbags. It will get dual front airbags, side airbags, curtain airbags and driver knee airbag. This makes the Yaris class-leading in terms of airbags. Honda City and Hyundai Verna only offer 6 airbags.
Gesture sensing infotainment – Now it is something that we only get to see in the high-end vehicles. The Yaris will get the gesture-controlled infotainment system that will allow the occupants to control the infotainment system without touching it. It is again a class-leading feature that will be offered on the Yaris.
Ambient lighting – Ambient lighting makes the car feel very plush and luxurious. The Yaris will get segment-first ambient lighting that will change colours too. This will make the interiors a pleasant place to spend time.
Roof-mounted AC – Roof-mounted AC is not a feature that is common in sedans from any segment. The roof mounted AC distributes air evenly through the cabin and ensures that the rear passengers also get the same effect of the AC as the front passengers. The roof mounted AC of the Yaris will cool the cabin quite quickly and it goes into only front seat air throw mode if there are no occupants in the rear seats.
Electrically adjustable driver seat – The Yaris will also get an electrically adjustable driver seat, which is a premium feature and is available with high-end cars. The electrically adjustable seat will ensure the best seating position for the driver, which helps during long drives.
The Yaris will only get a 1.5-litre petrol engine that generates a maximum power of 108 Bhp and 140 Nm. It gets a 6-speed manual and a 7-stepped CVT automatic transmission too.
