Toyota Kirloskar Motors Limited will start taking bookings for the upcoming Yaris C-Segment sedan from April 2018. The Yaris will be the first full-size C-Segment sedan that Toyota will launch in India, and the car’s official launch is slated for the middle of this year. The Yaris was shown at the 2018 Indian Auto Expo. It is known as the Vios in specific markets of the world. In India, the Yaris will compete with the likes of Honda City, Hyundai Verna, and the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz. It will sit above the Etios in terms of price and positioning.
Toyota India plans to load up the Yaris with many features. So, one mustn’t expect the car to start cheap. Expect a premium pricing as the Yaris will be a segment-leader in terms of the equipment on offer. 7 airbags, ABS, ESP, hill hold assist, a gesture sensing infotainment system, roof mounted AC vents, ambient lighting, front proximity sensors, rear sunshade, tire pressure monitoring system and an electrically adjustable driver’s seat are various class-leading features that the car will offer.
It’ll be a petrol-only car though. Toyota has no plans to launch a Diesel engine even in the near future. The petrol engine for the Yaris displaces 1.5-liter and will benefit from variable valve timing. The engine will produce a maximum power of 108 Bhp along with a peak torque of 140 Nm. The motor will come mated 6-speeded manual gearbox that will be standard on all trims. A CVT automatic gearbox with 7 stepped shifts and paddle shifters will be offered as an optional extra. Since it’s a Toyota, the market will expect the Yaris to be very cost-effective to maintain, while a high reliability will be taken for granted. Toyota is not likely to disappoint on these fronts. Will Toyota finally crack the volumes sedan segment market in India with the Yaris? Time shall tell!
