It’s by now pretty well-known that the Toyota Yaris sedan is about to launch in India. The upcoming sedan from Toyota made its India debut at the recently conducted Auto Expo 2018. In the latest development, the Yaris has been spotted testing on public roads ahead of its launch in May this year. As can be seen in the image, the test mule wears minimal camouflage, which isn’t surprising if you consider that the car has already been shown to Expo visitors.
The Yaris will find itself slotted between the Etios and the Corolla Altis. Also known as the Toyota Yaris Ativ and the Toyota Vios in many markets, the soon-to-launch sedan is a direct rival of the Honda City and the likes. It measures 4.4 metres in length, 1.7 metres in width and 1.5 metres in height.
It has a wheelbase of 2.6 metres. In India, the Yaris will launch with a 1.5-litre Dual VVT-i petrol engine mated to a six-speed manual transmission or CVT. The engine is expected to output a maximum power of 105 bhp along with a peak torque of 140 Nm. From the looks of it, the Yaris won’t be available with a Diesel engine.
Toyota Kirloskar Motor will market its new baby as a premium sedan that will offer some segment-leading features like – LED light guides, LED DRLs, power driver’s seat and roof-mounted aircon vents. It will also offer 15-inch alloy wheels, 4.2-inch MID, automatic climate control and roof-mounted air vents.
Safety features will include a full quote of seven airbags, ABS with EBD, disc brakes on all four wheels, Tyre-Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), VSC, HSC, front and rear parking sensors, rear camera and automatic headlamps. Prices of the upcoming Toyota Yaris sedan are likely to start around Rs 8 lakh. The fully-loaded model could cost up to Rs 14 lakh. Bookings for the new car will start in April.
