Toyota Yaris sedan’s first-in-segment features highlighted in a brand new video

Toyota is preparing the Yaris C-Segment sedan for a launch in India. The car is a Honda City- and Maruti Ciaz-rival and will be Toyota’s first offering in the full-size C-Segment sedan market here. Toyota dealers are already taking pre-bookings for the car, while official bookings will open only by the end of April. Meanwhile, Toyota has released a video that shows the various class-leading features that the Yaris will come with.

As the video shows, the Yaris will have a range of best-in-segment features. Some of them include the electrically adjustable driver’s seat, gesture sensing touchscreen infotainment system, ambient lighting, roof-mounted AC vents, a tyre pressure monitoring system and 7 airbags that includes a driver’s knee airbag. Toyota wants to position the Yaris as a value-for-money mini-version of the Corolla Altis.

The Yaris will be a petrol-only car, which means it will be at a significant disadvantage when compared with other cars in its segment. Popular C-segmenters such as the Honda City, Maruti Ciaz and Hyundai Verna offer diesel engine options. The car will use a 1.5 liter, 4-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 108 PS and 140 Nm. 6-speed manual and CVT automatic gearboxes will be on offer. The CVT automatic gearbox will offer 7 stepped shifts and paddle shifters.

Toyota will be hoping that the feature-rich Yaris will attract enough buyers through the various class-leading features it offers. Prices of the car could start from a little under Rs. 8 lakhs. This should make the Yaris cheaper than the Honda City but slightly pricier than the Ciaz and Verna. The Yaris will be built at Toyota’s Bidadi factory near Bangalore. It will have a high amount of localization, and the official launch is expected to happen in May 2018. Those wishing to jump the booking queue may contact their nearest Toyota dealers for ‘unofficial’ bookings.
