Indian roads see many accidents every year and many of them even turn dangerous and fatal to human lives. Most of them happen because people do not follow the rules and regulations set up by the government. However, sometimes it is not the fault of humans, it is just the mechanics of the vehicle give up. This is what happens here in the video that is uploaded by ETV Andhra Pradesh on their YouTube channel.

We can see in the video that a truck keeps coming towards side pavement and ends up hitting a motorcycle. Two individuals who were standing near the motorcycle are saved by a couple of inches. It is being told that the brakes of the trucks failed due to which it couldn’t stop and end up hitting the pavement. Luckily no one was injured in the accident. The accident happened at Vayalur in Tamil Nadu.

What you should do in case your brakes fail?

Brakes are one of the most important things while driving. They are the element that gives the driver the confidence to go fast because he knows that his brakes are powerful enough to bring him to a halt in case of an emergency. There can be many reasons for a brake failure. The brake line might just have got snapped, the master cylinder could have had a leak due to which the brakes lost all its pressure.

Fortunately, there are certain ways to stop the vehicle in such a scenario. You can slowly start downshifting gears so start going from fourth gear to third gear and then second gear. This will increase your engine revs and cause engine braking. Due to this, your vehicle will start shedding its speed and you would be able to come to a stop. Remember to use your hazard lights in such a scenario.

If you are going slowly then you can also again start downshifting till the first gear and once the speed is slow enough you can pull on the handbrake. Do not touch the accelerator pedal in any case as it will again give your car momentum. If you are near a divider or a curb, then you can gently rub off your tyres with the side wall and that will also slow down your vehicle. You can also use sand, slush or gravel on the side of the road which will also help in decreasing the speed.

Signs of brake problems

There are certain signs that you get before your brake give up. As we all know that brake pads are supposed to be replaced after every particular period of time. Not doing this will damage your brake discs and other components. This will be expensive to repair. If your steering wheel or your brake pedal starts vibrating, it is a sign that the front rotors have some irregularities and you need to get them checked as soon as possible. If your brake pedal starts feeling soft or spongy, it means that your master cylinder has started losing pressure or there is moisture in your master cylinder or there is a leakage. The most obvious ones are the ABS warning light and the Brake warning light. In any of the case, you should get your vehicle checked as soon as possible and you should not drive a vehicle whose brakes are not working properly.
