The Chennai based motorcycle manufacturer TVS’ Raider 125 has won the highly acclaimed award of the Indian Motorcycle of the Year 2022. The IMOTY award is the country’s most revered award which any motorcycle can get bestowed with and this year the 125cc motorbike from TVS has been crowned the winner. Equivalent to being the Oscar or Grammy of the entertainment world, this award is is the most credible and coveted Indian two-wheel award. Some of the other contenders for this year’s IMOTY were the Royal Enfield Classic 350, Honda CB200X, Yamaha FZ-X, Bajaj Pulsar F250 and Bajaj Pulsar N250.
This award is based on the analysis of the industry experts of the finest new motorcycles in the nation. The highly experienced jury members are in charge of picking a single clear winner, and the voting procedure has been devised to be completely fair and tamper-proof. Price, fuel economy, style, comfort, safety, performance, practicality, technical innovation, value for money, and fit for Indian riding conditions are all significant elements to consider when selecting a winner.
The Jury members for the IMOTY 2022 included 14 of the best industry experts like Rahul Ghosh and Dipayan Dutta from Auto Today, Shivank Bhatt from AutoX, Aspi Bhathena and Sarmad Kadiri from BIKE India And CAR India, Sirish Chandran and Aatish Mishra from Evo India, Kartik Ware and Janak Sorap from Motoring World, Rohit Paradkar and Bertrand D’souza from Overdrive, Vikrant Singh from CarWale, BikeWale And CarTrade along with Kranti Sambhav from Times Drive and finally Abhay Verma from TURBOCHARGED.

The selection process of the contending bikes is done with a set of few ground rules. The qualifying criterion includes that all of the bikes that are eligible for these honours are brand new. Existing bikes with minor aesthetic alterations or minor mechanical changes, such as changing power or drivetrains, are not eligible for this prize. The rules also define that it doesn’t matter where the bikes originate from, they must be manufactured or assembled in India and available for purchase in showrooms before November 30th of the preceding year. The motorcycles should have been homologated for Indian type certification, however, those imported via CBU are not.
Meanwhile, the selection process of the winner takes place with a voting system where each jury member is given a maximum of 25 points. One motorbike can receive a maximum of ten points from each Jury member. At least 5 of the competing bikes must receive points from each Jury member. The IMOTY is the most respectable auto award because of its extremely fair and transparent procedure.
On behalf of the IMOTY 2022 jury, Dr Raghupati Singhania, Chairman & Managing Director, JK Tyre & Industries Limited, presented the winner’s trophy to Aniruddha Haldar, Senior Vice-President – Marketing, TVS Motor Company for the Raider 125. And while accepting the award Aniruddha Haldar said, “IMOTY has always been the most coveted awards in the automotive industry with sheer expertise that backups at the jury level.
