The Wego was TVS Motors’ first-ever automatic scooter, and was introduced way back in 2009. The 110-cc scooter takes on the likes of the Honda Activa 5G and the Hero MotoCorp Maestro. However, TVS’ real success in the scooter segment came with the Jupiter and not the Wego. To make the Wego more attractive and push sales, the Hosur-based two-wheeler giant has given the scooter a full Rs. 2,000 price cut.
The Wego is now priced at Rs. 50,165, ex-showroom Delhi, for the drum-brake equipped version while the disc-brake equipped version is priced at Rs. 53,083. Though the price drop may not seem much, it’s quite significant in the highly price sensitive commuter scooter segment. Even a Rs. 2,000 price drop can result in sales picking up dramatically, especially for a well-engineered product from an established two-wheeler brand.
The TVS Wego is now significantly cheaper than the Activa 5G, its prime rival, which is priced at Rs. 52,460. The Wego has been around for many years, and is a tried-and-tested automatic scooter. It is in fact the base for the Jupiter, which has been a super hit scooter for TVS Motors. So mechanically, the TVS Wego is more or less bomb-proof.
It is powered by a 110-cc, four-stroke engine with 8 Bhp of peak power produced at 7,500 rpm and 8.4 Nm of peak torque produced at 5,500 rpm. Transmission is by means of a CVT automatic gearbox. Key features of the scooter include a fully digital instrument cluster, Power and Eco mode indicators for maximizing fuel efficiency, external fuel filler cap, an optional underseat mobile charger and an LED tail light.
The scooter uses telescopic front forks that give it the ability to tackle broken roads better, while the rear suspension is a monoshock unit. Even though the Wego is overshadowed by its sibling, the Jupiter, its a good buy for those who want an automatic scooter at an attractive price tag. The Wego is available at all TVS dealers across India.
