China’s United Motorcycles, which has tied up with India’s Lohia Auto to manufacture bikes, has just launched the Renegade range of affordable cruisers. The Commando, Sport S and Classic are essentially differently styled cruisers based on the same platform, and around the same engine.
The engine in question is a 280cc, single cylinder liquid cooled four stroker that makes 25 Bhp of peak power and 21.8 Nm of peak torque. A 6 speed manual gearbox comes standard with these bikes, which get telescopic front forks up front and hydraulic spring shock absorbers at the rear. Electric start is standard and there’s no kick starter.
The bikes are meant to take on the Royal Enfield Thunderbird 350 and the recently updated Bajaj Avenger 220. The Sport S makes for the entry-level variant, and carries a 1.49 lakh rupee price tag. The Commando and the Classic are pricier, at 1.59 lakh rupees and 1.69 lakh rupees respectively.
