Kia unveiled their next product for Indian market recently. It is known as Carens and Kia is calling this new 6 or 7-seater SUV a recreational vehicle or RV. Just like Seltos and Sonet, Carens will also be manufactured in Kia’s manufacturing facility in Anantpur, Andhra Pradesh. Kia has revealed the car and also shared information about the interiors and features of the car. Images have already started surfacing online and here is a detailed image gallery of Kia Carens.
Unlike other Kia models that we have in India, Carens has a different design. The front grille on Carens is actually a revised version of Kia’s Tiger face grille. The dual function LED DRLs are placed in a way that it acts as an extension of the new grille. The Y-shaped LED DRL looks premium on the car. Just below the LED DRL, all LED headlamps are also placed. This gives Kia Carens a distinct identity.
The bumper on Carens looks muscular and the LED fog lamps are placed on either ends of the lower air dam. The overall design is actually a mix of SUV and MPV. Some may find the design odd but, we feel that design would grow on you over time.
Side profile of the Carens reveal 5-spoke dual tone alloy wheels, plastic cladding that runs across the lower portion of the car. To make it a look a lot more premium, Kia has used chrome garnishes at places. The door and the lower window line gets chrome garnish that extends to the C pillar of the car.
At the rear, the car gets an all-LED split LED tail lamp. The design does not resemble with any other Kia in Indian market. There is a reflector bar running across the tailgate connecting the tail lamps. Kia brand logo can be seen in the tail gate along with Carens badging on left corner. The rear bumper on Kia Carens look muscular just like the front. There is a chrome applique on the rear bumper as well. A roof mounted spoiler, shark fin antenna is also seen here.
Kia will offer Carens is both 6 and 7 seater configurations. Although Carens is based on Seltos, the interiors do not resemble at all. The cabin has been completely redesigned and it comes with features like integrated air purifier, ventilated seats at the front, fully digital instrument cluster, electric sunroof, ambient lights, cruise control, automatic climate control, large touchscreen infotainment system, premium speaker system from Bose and so on. The cabin looks premium and Kia has used light coloured materials to give it an airy feel.
Kia says that Carens will be one of the safest cars in the country as it would be offered with features like 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, Traction Control, disc brakes for all wheels, TPMS, Rear parking sensors and many more features as standard across the range.
Kia Carens is available with both petrol and diesel engine options. Powering the petrol version will be a 1.4 litre turbo petrol engine that generates 140 Ps and 242 Nm of torque. The diesel will the 1.5 litre unit that generates 115 Ps and 250 Nm of torque. Both engines will be offered with manual and automatic transmission options.
