The cars to be launched in September include the Toyota Etios diesel, Honda Brio and Mahindra W201; take a look.
We’ve hardly soaked in the cars set to launch this August but car manufacturers already have a slew of launches lined up for the month of September. The demand for cars in Asian markets such as India is more promising than in European and American markets so there are always launches and face-lifts lined up.
CarToq has compiled a list of cars to be launched next month.
Toyota Etios Diesel
Toyota launched the Etios petrol in December 2010 and the diesel version was being expected ever since. As per CarToq sources, the launch of the Etios diesel will take place during the last week of September.
The diesel Etios will most likely be powered by the 1.4-litre motor that already powers the Toyota Corolla Altis diesel. But, there will be changes like a Fixed Geometry Turbo in the Etios-bound engine to keep the production costs lower and price competitive.
We expect Etios’ diesel engine’s power to be around 75 bhp and torque to be somewhere around 190 Nm. The car will most likely come with a 5-speed manual transmission. The mileage of the Etios diesel will be more than 21 kmpl.
Price & Competition
We expect the Etios diesel version to be priced in the Rs. 5.76 lakh – Rs. 7.66 lakh range. The diesel Etios will definitely appeal a lot more to buyers and would pose serious competition to the Maruti Dzire, Mahindra Verito (Earlier Logan) and the Tata Manza. Read more about the Etios diesel here.
Honda will enter into the mass market hatchback segment with the launch of Brio in September 2011. The Honda hatch will carry a price tag of under Rs. 5 lakh. The Brio has a radically-designed front and a uniquely designed, triangular tail lamp cluster. The Brio is a very compact car and measures 3.6 m x 1.68 m x 1.47 m (length x width x height). Hence, the Brio with its small dimensions will be ideal for a small family.
Based on Honda’s ‘Man maximum machine minimum’ philosophy, the Brio will give maximum cabin space with space-saving measures and intelligent packaging. Honda is planning to manufacture the Brio at Honda’s Greater Noida plant near Delhi.
The Brio will be powered by a 1.2 litre i-vtec engine that will produce 90 bhp of maximum power and will be mated to a 5-speed transmission. The same engine also performs its duty in the Honda Jazz. As per Honda (Thailand), the Brio returns a mileage of 20 kmpl.
Price & Competition
The Honda Brio, when launched, will be the cheapest Honda to own in India. The price of the base variant is expected to start below Rs. 4 lakh and the top-end variant could be around Rs. 5.5 lakh. Honda Brio will take on the Maruti Suzuki Ritz, Hyundai i10, Chevrolet Beat, Nissan Micra and Toyota Etios Liva. Read more about the Honda Brio.
Mahindra’s World SUV (code named W201) will most likely launch before Diwali this year. We expect the company to roll out the two-wheel drive version first, followed by a four-wheel drive version.
The W201 is going to be the largest SUV (in terms of dimensions) that Mahindra has ever launched, making it larger than even the Scorpio. In a country like India there has always been the need of a spacious SUV which has all the creature comforts one expects including a comfortable third row of seats.
The World SUV is built on a monocoque platform and will likely feature the trademark Mahindra grille. It will also sport day-time running LED lamps below the headlamp and integrated turn indicators on the rear view mirrors.
The W201 will likely sport a 2.2 litre m-hawk engine that will produce 138 bhp of max power. The engine will be mated to a 5-speed manual transmission while the 4WD version of the upcoming SUV will get a Borg-Warner on-demand 4×4 system.
Price and Competition
Price of the W201 is expected to be around Rs. 11.50 lakh for the base version and may go up to Rs. 14 lakh for the top-end variant. The SUV will compete with the like of Tata Aria, Skoda Yeti and Ford Endeavour. Read more: Upcoming launches from Mahindra in the next 6-9 months.
