Expected Launch: September 2011

Mahindra’s World SUV (code named: W201) is a much awaited product from Mahindra’s stables. Based on various spy shots, we can safely say that the W201 is going to be the largest SUV (in terms of dimensions) that Mahindra has ever launched. It is expected to launch in last week of September.

The World SUV is built on a monocoque platform (construction technique that supports structural load) and will likely feature a typical seven slat Mahindra grille; day-time running LED lamps below the headlamps and integrated turn indicators on the rear view mirrors. The interiors of the W201 are expected to have three rows of seats with adequate head, leg and shoulder room for 7 adults.

The W201 will likely sport a 2.2 litre m-Hawk engine that will produce 138 bhp of max power and will be mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The four-wheel drive version of the upcoming SUV will get Borg-Warner on-demand 4×4 system.

The Verito is a spacious five-seater sedan. However, the car’s looks are too insipid and underplay its true potential. Mahindra would address the styling of Verito when it launches the new face-lifted model. Expect the facelift to be minimal, as the company must ideally look to sell the face-lifted model in the same price range as the present model.

The face-lifted Verito will likely be powered by the same engines that power the outgoing Verito. Presently, the Verito petrol is powered by a 1.4 litre, 4-cylinder, eight-valve Renault engine that produces 75 bhp of power and 110 Nm of torque. The Verito diesel is powered by 1.5 litre dCI engine churning out 65 bhp of power and 160 Nm of torque. As per ARAI ratings, the Verito diesel has a fuel economy of 21.03 km/litre

Price and Competition

The face-lift version of Verito could be priced similar to the present model which ranges between Rs. 4.85 lakh and Rs. 6.62 lakh. The new Verito will compete with the Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Toyota Etios, Tata Manza and Ford Fiesta Classic. The Verito face-lift is expected to be launch in November.

Verito compact sedan

Expected Launch: November-December 2011

Mahindra will launch a shortened version of the Verito, a sub-4 meter car that saves on excise duty. It has to be noted that cars with a sub-4 meter length are taxed only 10% while those above 4-meters attract 22% excise duty.

Mahindra’s Verito compact sedan will likely be powered by two engines: a 1.2 litre petrol motor and a 1.5 litre diesel motor that power the current Verito petrol and diesel models respectively. The 1.5 litre diesel engine makes 65 bhp of maximum power and 160 Nm of maximum torque.

In order to keep the price competitive, Mahindra may skip out some convenient features offered on the present Verito.

Price & Competition

It could be priced in the Rs. 4.5 lakh to Rs. 6 lakh price range. The diesel Verito will feel the heat from the Tata Indigo eCS. The Verito CS will likely be launched during the end of 2011 (Nov-Dec). The car will compete with the like of Tata Indigo eCS and the upcoming Maruti Swift Dzire compact. The Verito Compact sedan is expected to be launched this November alongside the Verito facelift.
