Various spy pictures of the camouflaged Mahindra Scorpio have already surfaced on the internet, and it looks like it will be a much more premium SUV with features like an electric sunroof, tyre pressure monitoring system, leather upholstery, touchscreen infotainment system and automatic climate control. It will share its powertrain and transmission options with the Mahindra Thar, though in different states of tunes.

Mahindra Scorpio facelift

It looks like Mahindra has not given up with the current-gen Mahindra Scorpio. A test mule of the current-gen Scorpio has been spied under test, which indicates that Mahindra will sell the current-gen model alongside the all-new generation model. It is a strategy which Honda is already following, by selling the fourth and fifth-generation models of the City side-by-side. Like the City, the current-gen Scorpio will be relaunched in a facelift form with mild revisions to its front and rear profiles and will be available in lower-spec variants only. These variants will get basic comfort and convenience features and will be powered by the current 2.2-litre 120 bhp diesel engine with a 5-speed manual gearbox.

Mahindra XUV700 Hybrid

The current extensive lineup of the Mahindra XUV700 might give you the impression that Mahindra has gone all the guns ablaze with its latest offering. However, it doesn’t end there, as Mahindra is already contemplating bringing in a full-hybrid variant of the XUV700. This variant will be available with the 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine paired with an electric motor and a lithium-ion battery. This configuration will give the XUV700 revised power and torque figures, and more importantly, a higher fuel-efficiency figure. This news might come as encouraging information to all those potential buyers who want to own a petrol-powered XUV700 but are shying away from it due to its low fuel efficiency figures.

Jeep Commander

Seven-seater SUVs based on already-on-sale five-seater SUVs is the current formula of the season tested by all the prominent carmakers in India. After a slew of such seven-seater launches in recent times, American SUV specialist Jeep will join this bandwagon with the all-new Jeep Commander. The Jeep Commander is essentially a stretched seven-seater version of the Jeep Compass, which has already been showcased in the global markets. However, for the Indian car market, the SUV will come with a new name, which is touted to be called Jeep Meridian, to avoid trademark issues with Mahindra. Compared to the Compass, the Jeep Commander will have slightly revised front and rear profiles, minute changes to the cabin and upholstery options and a few additional features.

Skoda Kodiaq

Skoda has already commenced the production of its flagship offering, the Kodiaq seven-seater SUV, at its production facility in Aurangabad. It indicates that Skoda might launch the all-new Kodiaq in India in January 2022. The new Skoda Kodiaq is essentially the facelifted version of the SUV, which was on sale in the Indian market till the deadline for the sale of BS4-spec models arrived. Unlike the previous version of the Kodiaq, which had a 2.0-litre BS4 diesel engine, the new Kodiaq gets the same 2.0-litre TSI petrol motor from the recently launched Tiguan. The new Skoda Kodiaq gets significant revisions to its front and rear styling, and some new features added to its cabin.

Toyota Hilux

After having a not-so-enthusiastic calendar year in 2021, Toyota will start 2022 with a bang by launching the much-awaited Hilux lifestyle pickup truck. The Hilux has already been spied during an advertorial shoot on the roads of Gurugram in its full glory. It indicates that its launch is going to happen very soon, probably in January 2022. The new Toyota Hilux pickup is based on the same IMV platform of the Innova Crysta and Fortuner and is expected to get a 2.4-litre diesel engine from the Innova Crysta. The Hilux will be available with 6-speed manual and automatic gearbox options and rear-wheel drive and front-wheel-drive versions. For India, the Hilux is supposed to be sold only in the double cab version with a seating capacity of five passengers.
