2024 Kia Sonet facelift featured

Just a few weeks ago, Kia India’s popular sub-compact SUV Sonet facelift’s test mule was spotted testing in India. This particular test mule was fully camouflaged; however, recently, pictures of a fully undisguised Sonet facelift pre-production model have made their way to the internet. These new pictures reveal all of the exterior design details that the new facelifted Sonet will be offered with. According to reports, the launch of this new model will take place in the coming 3-4 months.

Front

First off, let’s talk about the exterior updates on the front of the SUV. The updated Sonet facelift will come equipped with a redesigned front fascia, which has been made a lot more modern. This time around, the SUV gets a new shape for the all-LED headlights. It can be noted that it gets a drop-down element on the extreme ends of the headlights, similar to the other global Kia models.

This new extended portion of the headlight now houses a new LED DRL and newly designed fog lights. The top front grille overall looks very similar to the outgoing model; however, the lower front grille on the bumper has been tweaked a little bit. Talking about the front bumper, it has been changed and has been given a much more squarish appearance with a bigger silver skid plate. According to reports, this vehicle is an HT Line variant, and the GT Line variant could get a different design for the front bumper.

Coming to the side profile of the leaked pre-production model, it can be noted that the overall silhouette of the Sonet has been retained. The only main noticeable difference is from the newly designed dual-tone alloy wheels. In the pictures, two different designs of new alloy wheels have been shown. These different alloy wheel designs belong to the HT Line and the GT Line variants.

Rear

As for the rear end of the new Kia Sonet, there are some significant changes. The first thing that catches the attention is the newly designed LED taillights. Unlike the outgoing model, these taillights have now been stacked in a vertical pattern and look like they have taken inspiration from Sonet’s elder sibling Seltos facelift.

Adding to the newly designed rear end, a connected LED light bar in the middle of the two LED taillights can also be noted. Lastly, the rear bumper of the new Sonet has also been changed. The new radically designed rear bumper looks a lot more squarish and gets a massive faux skid plate. The number plate placement area has been significantly increased. Overall the SUV gets a decent amount of changes on the exterior. It is to be noted that the design and specifications leaked are from the China-specific Sonet. It has been stated that the India bound Sonet facelift will vary from the Chinese edition shown in the images.

However, the previous test mule, which was spotted in India, did reveal a few new details. First off, the SUV will be getting a new dual-tone color scheme, which includes a new tan color on the seats of the vehicle. The car will get the same touchscreen infotainment system as the outgoing model; however, the buttons for the air conditioning system will be changed.

It is believed that most likely the company will not be offering any new powertrain options. It will continue to get the same engine options as the outgoing model. Currently, the Kia Sonet comes offered with three engine options: a 1-liter turbo-petrol engine producing 120PS of power and 172 Nm of torque, a 1.2-liter petrol engine making 83PS of power and 115 Nm of torque, and lastly, a 1.5-liter diesel unit making 115PS of power and 250 Nm of torque. The turbo-petrol engine comes paired with either a 6-speed iMT or a 7-speed DCT, while a 5-speed manual is available for the 1.2-liter petrol engine. Lastly, the diesel unit comes mated to a 6-speed iMT or a 6-speed automatic.
