Mahindra is currently testing the 5-door version of Thar and we have come across several spy pictures and videos of this upcoming SUV. Mahindra recently brought the 4×2 version to North India for testing. Here we have a video where the upcoming Mahindra Thar 5-door is shown inside out. Mahindra Thar is one of the most popular and affordable 4×4 SUV in the market and Mahindra had announced last year about the launch of a more practical 5-door version of the SUV. In this video, the exterior and interior of the upcoming SUV is seen clearly.
The video has been uploaded by The Car Show on their YouTube channel. The SUV seen here in the video is a test mule and is fully camouflaged. As we already know, the upcoming Thar is likely to get the same front fascia as the 3-door version. The front grille, round halogen headlamps, LED DRLs and turn indicators on the fenders remain the same. The design of the bumper also remains the same however, the round halogen headlamps are replaced with a rectangular LED unit. The bonnet design remains the same so does the size of the windshield and wiper.

The vlogger shows the underbody of the SUV which reveals that this is the 4×2 version. Just like the 3-door version, Mahindra is likely to offer Thar 5-door in both 4×4 and 4×2 formats. Coming to the side profile, the SUV gets the same 18 inch alloy wheels. These are AT tyres and the design of the alloys also look the same. The length of the SUV has increased and the rear door handle is placed on the pillar like we see on Maruti Swift and some other cars. The SUV gets a long footrest and it looks like half of the rear wheel cladding is a part of the door itself. At the rear, the LED tail lamps and the tailgate-mounted spare wheel all remain the same.
There is still no clue about what Mahindra will be calling this 5-door version of Thar. Some rumours even said that Mahindra might call it Armada. The video then shows how the interior of the SUV looks like. The dashboard design remains the same with a small touchscreen infotainment screen in the center and AC controls below it. The SUV also comes with a multi-function steering wheel with cruise control and other buttons. The Thar 5-door will only come with a hard top and the roof liner material is different from the 3-door version. It even gets a sunglass holder.
The design of the seat also looks the same and the rear passengers also get bucket seats in this test mule. This may change in the production version. In this video, the rear door on the Mahindra Thar looks slightly smaller which might make getting in and out of the SUV tedious. The biggest advantage of the 5-door Thar would be this that, it can comfortably seat 4-5 people and would still have a large boot at the back for luggage. The SUV will be available with a 2.2 litre turbo diesel engine and a 2.0 litre turbo petrol engine. Both petrol and diesel engine are likely to be offered with manual and automatic transmission and both might get 4×4 and 4×2 options.
