Upcoming Maruti Suzuki SUVs & MPVs: From 5 door Jimny to Creta-rival

Maruti Suzuki, the largest car manufacturer in India has been dominating the market for decades now. With the rising popularity of SUVs and MPVs in the country, Maruti Suzuki has decided to introduce a new SUV or MPV every six months in the country. A Business Standard report last year reveals Maruti Suzuki’s upcoming products. But due to the COVID-19 related lockdown and challenges, the launch timelines are delayed. But here are five upcoming SUVs and MPVs from Maruti Suzuki in the future.

All-new Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza

Expected launch: Second half 2021

Maruti Suzuki launched the facelifted version of the Vitara Brezza in 2020. However, it is an ageing vehicle and with the rivals launching all-new products in the segment, Maruti Suzuki will soon launch the all-new model to replace the current Vitara Brezza.

The all-new Vitara Brezza will look slightly different from the current model. Also, it is highly likely that Maruti Suzuki will re-introduce the 1.5-litre diesel engine in the future so the Vitara Brezza may get it apart from the 1.5-litre K-Series petrol engine that powers the current model.

Maruti Suzuki MPV

Expected launch: Early 2023

Maruti Suzuki’s Ertiga and XL6 are doing well in the market. However, there is still a lot of gap between the Ertiga and the Innova Crysta and there is no product in the market to fill that gap. Yes, the Marazzo is there but it is not as popular. So Maruti Suzuki is likely to bring a brand-new product to cut down the gap between the Ertiga and the Innova Crysta. The product is likely to be launched next year and may get a diesel engine to attract fleet car buyers.

Maruti Suzuki YTB

Expected launch: Mid 2023

Maruti Suzuki already offers the Vitara Brezza in the sub-4m compact SUV market in India. Well, with the new entrants like Kiger and the Magnite, a new low-cost segment is now there. Maruti Suzuki will exploit this price band with an all-new crossover based on the Baleno. Named as YTB internally, the all-new Baleno-based crossover is likely to get a much cheaper price tag compared to the Vitara Brezza. It will help the brand to target customers on a budget.

Maruti Suzuki Jimny

Expected launch: 2023

Suzuki is already manufacturing the Jimny in India but those are only for the export markets. Maruti Suzuki will launch the five-door, a much more practical version of the Jimny in the Indian market. Suzuki has already started testing the five-door version of the Jimny internationally and the product is likely to arrive in India very soon. It will take on the Mahindra Thar. The product is internally named YWD. Like the standard Jimny, this one will be an all petrol option too.

Maruti Suzuki Vitara

Expected launch: 2023

Maruti Suzuki has been absent from the mid-size SUV segment for a long time now. Hyundai and the new entrant Kia has taken full advantage of it to become the segment leaders. However, Maruti Suzuki has been working to bring the all-new Vitara to the Indian market and it is likely to be launched in the coming months. It will take on the likes of Creta and Seltos. And it will become the most expensive vehicle in the manufacturer’s portfolio.
